I'm wondering what it feels like to have a flipped port. I've lost 45 lbs since March 20th, I can feel the port more, I don't know if it's because I lost weight. Has anyone had there port flipped?

Generally you will only know your port has flipped when you go to get a fill and your Dr cannot access it.

Don't fret...I think a lot of us can feel our ports. Mine is very obvious to the touch (not so much visually). It feels like a half egg sitting about 3 inches below my last left rib.

I have had my port flip. Mine flipped even before my first fill! I could not feel it flip, nor did I know it was flipped until an x-ray confirmed it. The dr tried several times to do my fill and could not access it. It was frustrating at the time, but now I can look back and know that it was just a speed bump in the road.

i didn't feel my port flip, but one day i woke up in a lot of pain, so i knew something had happened. it may have flipped long before i felt it.

i had my revision surgery about a month ago and now i'm getting back on track with everything else. i sure hope they secured that sucker this time. i don't want to go through that again.

Mine feels likeit is sitting on its side instead of flat. I can feel a thin hard ridge especially when I lay down and it feels like the side of it rather than the flat surface of the front. I am anxious for my first fill in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the input everyone. I feel a little discomfort because my port is on the right side of my belly button. Is it unusual to have it on your waist line? It's uncomfortable when I wear a belt.

Mine is kind of on my waistline... It does make it uncomfortable to wear high pants or tighter pants. Not painful just kind of awkward.

Mines flipped also, I found out when I went for my 1st fill on May 23rd 2012...smh it was uncomfortable to get the fill but my surgeon said as long as he can fill my band he will leave it like that.

What do they do if they want to fix the flipped port. Is the fix as painful as the original surgery?

My port flipped. After something like 2 years of easy fills, it was harder and harder to access. My surgeon was able to access it under x-ray, but doing fills that way was ridiculously expensive in terms of time and the money billed to my insurance, so eventually I had surgery to re-position it. I'll be honest with you, that surgery was very painful because of all the scar tissue my surgeon had to deal with. I guess you have to consider the alternative? What's your co-pay for fills in the radiology department? Are you willing to go through that every time you need a fill or unfill for the rest of your life?

BTW, we don't know why my port flipped. It could be that my workouts pulled a suture loose, or my original surgeon didn't suture it in well enough, or dumb luck. My current surgeon said that the possiblity of a flipped port is not a good excuse for avoiding exercise!

As you lose weight and your fat cells shrink, you're going to be able to palpate (feel by touching your abdomen) your port more easily. I couldn't feel my port at all for a few months - way too much flab covering it! Later I could feel it and was happy about that except when it chafed at my waistband. I liked feeling my port and knowing it was doing its job!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
