One Month Post Op But Very Minimal Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, i had my surgery may 7th in Chicago IL at Mercy Hospital. Beginning weight was 268.0 before liquid diet. Lost 14lbs on liquid diet. surgery weight was 251 now one month out I am 240.8. I have not lost much weight and makes me sad cause I am following what the Drs say and do. I have to be doing something wrong. Can you guys give me some advise to kick start my weight loss?

Thanks and good luck on all your weight loss goals ;)

I don't know what to tell you other than that I really feel it's gotta be about more than just the numbers. You've lost 11 pounds right? For one month that seems amazing to me!! I picked lap band over gastric for one reason because I didn't want to lose too fast - were you expecting something different? I hope you don't get too discouraged becasue if you're doing what the drs said then you're doing it all right! Hang in there - everyone's experience is bound to be a little bit different. Have you tried a new exercise program or something different with foods that could stir things up and maybe help? best of luck to you!

You are doing good! I only lost 15 lbs including liquid diet. I did the lap band for the same reason. If you loose too fast your skin will sag. I do not own a scale. It will happen.

I like that you said that. I own one but I DO NOT let myself weigh myself more than once a month. If you look and feel good it doesn't matter as much what you weigh, right?

You are doing FANTASTIC!

I think there is a general misconception that the weight will "simply melt off in enormous quantities" like in gastric bypass. It doesn't. Period. We are considered a success when we loose 1-2 lbs a week.

You selected banding, which is MUCH healthier in the long run. And statistics have shown that while GB's will loose faster in the beginning, by year 3, bandsters have caught up AND are more successful at keeping the weight off long term. Plus we get the added advantages of:

1) No digestive issues - we do not loose any of our stomach!

2) We can have 'tune-ups' or a fill. GB have no such recourse.

3) Band is adjustable - no "one size fits all". It can be unfilled if necessary and re-filled as needed.

4) We learn to eat correctly long term as we journey to the Green Zone and IF WE CHOOSE to comply with our required eating plans, have a greater chance of long term success than GB's

My Gastroenterologist told me he wanted to tell people who wanted GB to consider the number of new cases he got each year of people who had had GB and now were in serious or life threatening gastric situations (like cancer) and who seriously complicated his ability to help them. He was totally anti bypass, but very supportive of LapBand.

All this to say, give yourself a break - you're doing fabulous!

I lost 4lbs the first month doing everything right! I was sooo depressed! Now here I am today, 2 1/2 weeks shy of my one year bandiversary, and I hit 101lbs lost! I'm so happy! I truely believe consistency over time wins the race! You're doing great, keep up the good work!

I was just banded last week and have lost since then. I came into the banding process since I do know how to lose weight. I lost 102 pounds in 2 years but could not keep it all off. I have found through TOPS ( Take Off Pounds Sensibly) how to gradually lose and maintain weight in the long run. I was banded because even with working out 5-7 hours a week and eating reasonably I put back on 35 pounds and could not get my control back. I can tell you that losing 1-2 pounds a week is much easier on your system and it does not cause skin sagging or massive Hair loss. I have a friend who had GB in November and has lost over 80 pounds but her her hair is falling out and she looks 10 years older. So be patient... it is worth waiting for!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
