How Much Did You Lose 2 Weeks Post-Op?

Recommended Posts

I understand that the first month is basically for healing, then you really start losing after your first fill. Some people gain and others lose. I am kind of hoping that I am not one to gain. I am going on a cruise in a month and my surgery is in 2 days.

How much did you lose after 2 weeks if at all?

How much did you gain?

When did you finally start seeing a loss if you didn't lose in the first 2 weeks?

I know everyone is different, so could you please include your beginning BMI for me please ?? :) Thanks everyone!

I am 3 weeks post op and I have lost 12 pounds since surgery as of yesterday .You can see my stats below. Believe me, it is all willpower because I have absolutely no restriction at this point. It feels as if nothing ever happened. I am really looking forward to my first fill on June 14th. 1 month out will be a tough time, maybe just being aware of that will be helpful to you. A lot of people seem taken aback by the "bandster hell" period. I was mentally prepared to a point, but I could still eat a house right now if not for just willpower. I am viewing this as a temporary state, which too shall pass. Everyone is different, though.

I think my BMI when I had surgery was 38 or 39. I lost nothing in the first two weeks after surgery -- and I was really struggling to keep from gaining. I really think until I had my third fill, all of my weight loss (which was slow) was due to me being very careful, and not because I had a band. With my third fill, I finally felt restriction and the weight loss picked up. I went in for a fourth fill and they didn't think I needed it. A few weeks later, I was beginning to eat a little more, and finally went in and got that fourth fill. Since my fourth fill, the weight loss has picked up again. I'm a slow loser, but it's definitely going in the right direction!

I had a cruise scheduled when I was approved for the band, and I intentionally postponed my surgery until we got back. I didn't want to have a foreign object implanted and then be stuck on the ocean in case of something happening. Looking back on it now, I would have been perfectly fine, but it was just fear of the unknown.

Seems like you are doing well. 12 pounds is pretty good in three weeks, I think. I know that I am going to have NO restriction on my cruise, but by that time, I'll be able to eat soft food at least!

When you tried losing weight without the band, were you the same way with losing? I can lose weight, if I practically starve myself. When I went on the HCG diet, I lost 30 pounds in a month, but as soon as I started eating normally again, I gained every pound back PLUS some. So, I am very capable of losing it at a good rate..Just wondering if the healing process is going to postpone it. It's hard to tell, because everyone is different and we all have different experiences.

I never really had trouble losing weight -- I've probably lost a couple of hundred pounds with Weight Watchers over the past decade! Trouble was, I'd lose 30, quit WW, and then gain back 40; rejoin and start that vicious cycle all over again and ultimately ended up larger than I ever thought possible. That was the main reason I chose WLS, I knew I could lose the weight, but I wanted something that would help me keep it off for good!!

I was down about 30 pounds at that point including preop.

But I didn't lose much after my first fill of 4cc. I was pretty stalled but so happy I wasn't gaining.

Got my second fill and finally can feel some restriction. I just hit my two month bandiversary and I'm down about 40 pounds.

Thank you.

I have Ensure in the morning, Premier Protein shake (Costco) for lunch, and for dinner it's either another Premier Protein Shake or a weight loss shake (Costco). Plenty of Water in between. Between Breakfast and lunch, I have this multi-Vitamin mix that you mix with 16 oz of Water (costco, again). So I try to get that in. I really don't have much of an appetite, but I try to get some calories in. Once in a great while if I do feel hunger, I'll eat a cup of sugar free Jello or sugar free pudding.

That's so awesome. Congrats!

Thank you.

I am 11 days out and currently 25lbs down. I have stuck to the doctors orders very strictly and I do not puree any food so I can eat it. My doctor told me that alot of people will puree up anything thinking that they will still lose weight but me personally I don't want to suck my meals down.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
