Chest Pain 3 Days Post Op! Any Advice?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!I was banded 6/1, Today I haven't been on any pain medicine, I'm wanting to be off all of the pain meds to get back to work Wednesday. My incisions are a little sore but the worst of the pain is in my chest. I'm guessing it is gas still? The Dr. said he put a couple of stitches in my diaphragm due to my it being weak not sure if that has anything to do with the pain but I didn't realize he had done this until my family told me yesterday. hmm. Guess I still had so much medicine in me I wasn't feeling all of this in my chest until today. I'm just wondering if it's gas or something else I should be worried about. I've been up and walking and using a heating pad but the pain is still coming and going in my chest. I've taken milk of magnesia, and been drinking Clear Liquids. I'm praying it's just gas that's going to work itself out. I'd have to say this is the worst pain so far.

It does sound like gas, but if you're nervous, maybe call your doc first thing in the morning?

I was banded on may 31 so I'm one day ahead if you. I have chest pains too, I find them more so after I drink something too fast or sip a little too much. I found walking helped relieve a lot of the pains I was having.

You should NEVER mess around with chest pains. Call your DR NOW to make sure it is all OK. It probably is just gas but what if it isn't?

I had pain at the bottom of my left chest/rib cage- but i'm a week and a half out and it has finally moved on- i've read it's from everything being stitched and where it's situated and the nerves it could be hitting and the gas altogether just causes pain-- Mine was whenever I inhaled it would hurt--- I used a heating pad for a couple of days.

Hi - I posted a similar topic yesterday. This morning I called my surgeon's office. They said that they pain is normal and is due to the esophagus not being used to the lapband. They said to be careful about the max ounces of liquids and record everything. (Personally, I kind of don't think it's related to the liquids I'm drinking bc I have the pain starting right when I get up in the morning before I've had anything to drink at all.)

I had my band on 5-30 and am still having some chest pain. I called the doc this morning and they told me its normal and in 2 weeks I will be able to drink normally and won't even know I have the band. Remember, we are in a healing process so this pain in normal. I would be careful taking any over the counter products. I did end up buying some children's tylenol which has helped with the pain. However, if you are having any trouble breathing call tour doc right away!

Glad I found this post. I have the same thing. I had surgery on May 25th, so I am just a little over a week out. I noticed the pains in my chest/diaphragm area once I stopped taking the pain medication. Now I am starting to understand why they gave so much pain medication. The incisions really didn't hurt much at all, but the chest thing is sort of uncomfortable. I notice it more in the evening and at night when I am trying to fall asleep. I thought that it was gas for while, but I noticed that I had the pain when I was certain that I had no gas at all. It is not really bad pain. I would say that it is more like a dull ache than a true "pain". Now that I have read everyones posts and have reflected back..... the pain probably had to do with swallowing a large mouthful of something or the other. I can recall doing more or less just that a few hours before noticing the pain/ache. Glad to know that should be short lived.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
