Taking A Short Road Trip A Month After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi there:)

I am scheduled to be banded on June 15th. I have a short road trip to Austin with the PTA board from my kiddos' school. Any advice on things I should take? Also, I am sure there will be some eating out, any advice on how to handle that? Anything I should avoid? Trying to keep things discrete and not make a big deal out of meals. I do not know a lot of these women that well. Thanks in advance for your advice;)

How long after your surgery is your road trip? Will you still be on liquids?

End of July, so a little over a month after. I have not gotten my post op diet yet, so I am not sure?

Everyone I have talked to seems to be eating mushie food or solid food a little more than a month after surgery. I think you should be fine by then, just remember to take small bites and chew your food alot! Good Luck to you.

Same here...you should be good to go. If your diet of mushies brings any attention, just tell them you don't travel well and its best for you to keep your foods simple.

Plus you will have seen your doctor at least once if not twice by then, so make sure to address any concerns then.

Why not ? Eating out will always be an issue for us...... Breakfast....hot cereal/yogurt Lunch... Soups. Dinner.. I always suggest Mexican when given an option. I order a ground beef taco and beans... mix the taco filling with the beans...toss the shell ! Eat just a little. Remember nothing is worst than getting a STUCK while out on the town.

Enjoy your trip...........

dont forget to take several plastic grocery bags in your purse. if youre traveling and you get stuck ,or have a reaction to something you'll need a bag . I know...... its not what you want to hear but better safe than sorry. stick to soft food as much as possible, wait on anything hard ( raw veggies, hard fruits , !breads, potatoes , etc.) have fun!

Grocery bags have holes in them. I bring dog poo bags. They come in a roll at the pet store. You can get a dispenser for them. The ends tie off and they are scented.

Soup...was the best thing for me. Cottage cheese, melon. Order a glass of Water. One tiny sip before and after...really small. Eat slow enjoy conversation.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
