Not Losing Any Weight On Lapband Starting To Feel Discouraged

Recommended Posts

Yolanda~~

Here is a few things that worked for me. I was also very discouraged because like you my greatest loss was during the pre op diet. So try to do a pretty high protien diet, really cut back the carbs. Secondly make sure you are looking at your caloric intake..writing down etc. For me, I couldn't do more than 1200 cal a day. Remember this band is only a tool, you still have to do the other "smart eating" stuff to make it work.

Good Luck

MrsPopeye,

It does get better but usually it will take a few fills to get to that point. FYI-"It's just another diet until you get restriction"! You are pretty much on your own during this period but try looking for those foods that fill or satisfy your hunger. For me it's been salmon and some other fish. Hamburger seems to go down and satiates well too. I love meatloaf and that works.

And yes, be happy, you're much closer to turning the corner on your journey than you were before surgery.

I only lose on the lapband with strict dieting. I didn't think I'd have to. The difference is that I can stick to the diet a little better and when I fall off the wagon, I can't do too much damage. As you've read in all these posts, we are all different. I really thought my experience would be just like those people who's weight just "fell off" or who found that magical green zone. Nope, no such luck. Just keep trying new things and read all the advice people give you. Something is bound to work eventually.

Though every doctor seems to have a slightly different set of guidelines to follow. it was stressed to me the importance of measuring everything you eat...not by weight, but by volume, after it is cooked.

Each meal is supposed to have 3 oz of Protein and 2 oz of carb. Carbs are also appetite stimulants, so they need to be chosen wisely. I was advised to stay away from processed foods as much as I could, and to avoid all foods which have any form of sugar added to them.

Wow I feel the same way. I was banded oct. 2011. i didnt lose any thing until march. And that was only 5lbs. Now I am at 17 lbs. But it is a long slow ride. It has been 7 months. The weight just started to come off in the last month or so. My dr didnt do my first fill for 2 months and then it was only .2 cc's. My band holds 10cc's. Stay strong it will start to come off. Eat slow and small. Exercise as much as you can. I did not exercise much at first. I just did not have it in me. For 2 weeks i have exercised every day just a little but i see it working.

You need to speak to your nutritionist? Slimfast is not a lapband food. It's a slider food. You should be consuming lapband friendly foods. See your doctor and his/her dietician. With the lapband there's no reason to be dieting with traditional methods. You should be eating foods that fill you up and you should be satisfied with your food choices. Drinking your meals is not recommended.

24 lbs in 2.5 months is incredible? What are you expecting? I see these posts daily and it really confounds me as to why bandsters would expect to lose more than humanly possible? You're losing more than 8 lbs a month and that is more than anyone could ever ask for. You should also be aware that from here on out, that will probably slow down to 3-6 lbs per month. It's just not possible to lose more than 8 lbs of fat a month unless you always consume 800 calories and workout 1-2 hours a day. Even then it would only be 8-10 of fat.

You are doing incredible and maybe you should lower your expectations. Keep reading this forum and you will see that most of us only lose 2-6 lbs per month when we behave as we're supposed to behave with our bands.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
