Well i am now 3 days out of surgery. The surgery took 11 hours i ended up with a catheter, 8 drainage tubes and a whole 24 hours in the high dependency unit.

It was more uncomfortable and sore rather than lots of pain, today i have had my pressure garments changed and my arm drains out tomorrow i should have my abdomen drains out and finish with them yay lol

i am sitting out in a chair today looking at a nice sunny day :) ty all for your caring words and concerns .. i am not expecting miracles at my age but it certainly is looking good from what iu can see :)

they took 9lbs of skin away

Congratulations on your surgery and the removal of soooo much skin! That's great :) The road ahead of you is going to be rough.... I'm 3 weeks out from brachioplasty and still struggling due to complications. Take everything one day at a time. The biggest thing I can tell you is get on some major stool softeners or mirilax now! I've had a huge problem with Constipation b/c of being on pain medications for so long. I've never had to stay on pain medications longer than 4 days and here I am 3 weeks out still on them :(

Things are going to be rough... look at the long term results! Keep up the great work!

Thanks everyone for the positive thoughts :)

Going home today so will have spent 5 nights 6 days in hospital. Am swelling up a little at the minuter but got rid of all my drains and am just in compression garments now ... arms look great but hard to see scars at the minute as i have to leave compresssion garment on for another 10 days before i see the surgeon and change it to a clean one :) they changed the tummy compresssion one from the normal type shorts one to a wrap around girdle type this gives me a little more control over the tightness and its easier to keep clean etc.

have been on anti biotics since day 1 and all scars at present looking ok but will be monitoring closely for any leaks/changes etc :)

well now we have a mini heat wave so am gonna be too hot lol .. will post another update soon ...

Thanks all for the nice messages :)

well i had to return to the ward over the weekend as i am so full of Fluid at the minute that the surgeon requested me to go there so she could look me over .. all is ok but i need to go back to the girdle compression with legs as my legs are really full of fluid .. apart from that all is ok , suprisingly very little pain with no heavy duty painkillers from around day 3 .. can see anything till after next week and the compression garments come off for the first time lol shape looks good tho .. am eating like a horse so will need to get some fill in a couple of weeks ..

and yes post surgical blues seems obligatory.. i been crying and stressing out lol poor DH he has the patience of a saint :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one with the post surgery blues. You'd think we would be over the moon with relief at getting rid of all that excess skin!!!Sometimes I think it's hard realizing that we really are going to be "normal"!!! Best of everything to you cazzy! I say a little prayer everynight for myself and you! We're going to do great !!!!! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
