New To This Site-I Had Lapband Last Year

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself, I am new to this forum. I had Lap Band surgery 1 year ago and found that I need some support from fellow banders. A little about my surgery. I had my surgery with the 1-800-Get-Thin doctors because it was 1. advertised EVERYWHERE and 2. they got me with the fact that they handle all the insurance verification/approval process. Anyways, I had the surgery and everything went successfully but I was disappointed with the lack of follow up and the inability to get the attention I needed from them, I stalled after a couple of months and they weren't helping me loose. A friend recommended Dr. Khan at the Metabolic Clinic & Research Center (www.mcrcenter.com) to me and he has helped me loose another 40lbs since then. Without the switch, I wouldn't have been able to lose more with those get-thin people.

Anyways, I feel like I am stalling again and although I am getting all the attention and support I need from my doctor, I guess it isnt the same getting it from people that have gone through the same thing. I want to lose another 20lbs and then I'll be happy. So that's my story, kind of. I look forward to using this site daily to give and get support. :-)

Have a great day guys!

Welcome !! Just ask a question on any of the forums and somebody will have an answer.I was banded 4/6 and already lost 32 lbs total including wt loss during the two week pre op diet.I'm on here religiously and use some of the advice (some things are not for everybody) but I think it's because of this site that I've been successful so far.and the success stories are very inspiring. There is a success story forum but many of the success come out in different conversations throughput the site. Also people are really open about what they did wrong what to avoid and what to look out for. It's been great !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
