I Get My First Fill Tomorrow And I'm Scared!!

Recommended Posts

Is it going to hurt? Will I be throwing up? I can sort of eat anything now, not as much as pre-band, but no restriction. I know I need a fill, but... wah! I'm nervous!!

Hi! I am getting my first fill tomorrow too! I have not had a fill and my surgery was jan 19th. So I have been doing this all will power. There have been a lot of things I had been dealing with and for one reason or another it has been put off til now. My Dad died and that took a lot of energy to care for him, I really didnt have a minute to think about myself. So instead of setting myself up for failure, I put it off til now. I am not really nervous about pain, I am more worried about what kind of changes will happen once the band is tightened. Do you know how much Fluid they are going to put in your band??? Good luck tomorrow! Let me know how you did!

Hey ladies. It will be fine! I had my first fill and it didn't hurt much more than a shot. I have had oboe 3 PBs since (2 weeks or so out) unalloyed cases because I let myself get too hungry and ate too fast. It's not like violent committing, it's more like spitting up.

best wishes! Good luck.

My fills have been very easy! Surgeon has me lie down and tells me to stick my stomach out as hard as I can. Don't even feel the needle stick!

Hi Ladies,

I had my surgery Feb 27th and just had my first fill on May 9....Let's hear it for willpower LOL. I'm a pansy when it comes to shots and like someone said here, the only discomfort I had was when they administered the numbing shot (I absolutely can't stand that burning feeling). Other than that it was really no big deal. Kind of interesting to feel all the sensations though, like feeling your band tighten up around the barium you drink and feeling that gurguling sensation and the pressure when they put the needle into the port. They had me stand up so they had to push into the port. Next time I will stick out my belly to help them out. I found it interesting to watch the whole process on x ray too. I like seeing how it all works.

As far as problems after the fill, I have only had 1 instance of PB'ing. I ate yellow squash and evidentally didn't chew it good enough and it got stuck. I had the same squash the day before my fill and no problems at all. I find that thick foods also, like Beans, are hard to get down and I still have issues with chicken. I am definetely eating smaller amounts and getting fuller faster but mostly I eat less because of the amount of time it takes me to eat something. I just plain get tired of chewing.....Never thought this fat girl would ever say anythign like that hahaha.

Good Luck,

Patti

Not a bad event. One suggestion is to do a crunch (like you are starting a sit up). This made it easier for the nurse to find the port. My port was pretty deep. When I got my first fill I did feel a tightening sensation in the center of my chest. So basically as the saline entered the band. Not painful, or upsetting just a sensation. Make sure you drink Water before leaving. Also, follow your doctors order regarding post fill diet. My doctor calls for 24 hour full liquids and 24 hours mushies.

Had my lap band on 5/23 and have lost 20 lbs., but my first fill is tomorrow 7/24. I am a little afraid, mostly because I can eat almost anything now and am worried about how much restriction I will have. I still want to eat even though I don't always enjoy it. I know this is 'head hunger', but isn't that the problem with most overweight people to begin with? I eat when I am upset, lonely and bored - and that is exactly the problem - not so much feeling hunger pains.

I was prescribed Topamax a few years ago and it was like a magic bullet. I had no cravings for food or liquor. It did have some side effects, but it was wonderful and I lost over 100 lbs. Unfortunately, it stopped being effective for me and I gained all the weight back.

Now I find it difficult to 'deal' with the lap band, because I still want to eat. Does anyone else feel this way?

Can I ask what side affects topomax gave you?

You will be fine, I had my first fill today and it was over and done within a minute. You just feel a little pin prick and that's it. My surgeon put a pillow under the small of my back, made me cross my arms in front of my chest and lean forward so he could find the port. Good luck and it will be easy!

I go for my first fill tomorrow. Right now I eat most anything. I've lost 15 pounds since my surgery, a month ago.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
