61 And Just Beginning

Recommended Posts

Right now it seems like I have a long way to go till my surgery, but life has taught me, time goes by before you know it. My year of working with the insurance company began on February 1st this year. I wish I hadn't waited so long to come to this decision. I kept thinking I could lose weight through Weight Watchers. I'd done it before but it always came back with a vengeance. Anyway, I'm imagining, if all goes well, that I'll have surgery mid-march, I hope. I have to do this for me.

My ankles seem to be always swollen, clothes never fit, my knees are starting to ache if I walk any distance. I still think I'm too young to be falling apart.

Anyway, nice to meet you and any advice you care to share, I am happy to listen. I live alone so an extended family here would be a good thing.

Thanks.

Bonnie

I'm 51 & had surgery 9/7/11. I have had a great experience & have lost 80 lbs & have about 45 to go. I feel better than ever & don't feel like I'm old, either.

Start taking care of yourself now so you will be as healthy as possible for surgery. It will make you feel better, too. Hang in there, it does go by fast.

I Myself feel that I should of had the surgery sooner but it never happened. It's never to late to get a little happiness in your life, even if it's just to releave some pain. Good luck

I used to be fairly active and want to get back to that when I'm able. I'll be 62 in December, with 100 lbs. to lose. Being height challenged (5 ft.), it's a lot.

My surgeon, at the informational meeting said he had few patients in the 60 and over range. He was saying that the rate of success was lower as you age. I am determined.

I started this process Last May and almost gave up on the insurance company. I hung in and now I am having my surgery next week. It took a full year and I am 64. Looking forward to a new beginning. Hang in there and it will happen. :)

I believe if you really want something nothing can stop you from achieving that. It just takes will power. Good luck

I hope all goes well. I'm sure you're very excited to finally be having surgery. I hope to keep up with your progress. I would with a woman that was lapbanded in October 2011, and watching her has been wonderful. She's come off her blood pressure medicine. She is shrinking before our eyes and she feels great. She is the reason I finally got myself moving. Again, good luck.

I am 60 yeatrs old...have met my goal weight after 1 year...feel like I am 25 years younger. My current weight is now the same as it was before I was married...37 years ago.

Was thinking the other day..at one point I was seeing the following Dr.s: Some every 30 days, others every 3 months

PCP - Internal medicine

Endocrinologist

Cardiologist

Dermatologist

Bariatric Surgeon

Podiatrist.

Not to mention Dentist every 3 months, and optometrist every 12 months.

Since loosing all This weight, that list has become less frequent. I don't see my Endocrinologist anymore, and I only see my bariatric Surgeon every 6 months.

dermatologist was as frequent as every month, now once a year.

All my medical conditions, Rx meds, have been drasticly reduced if not reversed.

B-52, congratulations on your success. More important than just looking better is our health. My blood pressure has been borderline for ages and gone over the border this year. I'd like to see that go down. I won't be able to lose the endocronligist but once a year will be good enough. My PCP tries to get me in every 4 months and I resist. I would love to cut him to once a year.

These last couple years have felt like life on hold and ready to move on. I've had my eye on a little red motor scooter, and I don't want to be the fat lady on the scooter. I have this urge to run but I'd kill my ankles. My kayak is gathering dust. So much to do and too much weight.

I want so much to get a Harley as in my younger days....but my wife will either leave me or have me committed for sure.

I'm gonna do some surfing this summer, I have 2 boards the kids left behind.

Don't give your wife reason to commit you. I'm sure she wants to keep you around for a long time. Have fun surfing.

I was 61 1/2 when got my band. It will be 3 years this Oct. I lost 100 lbs and could not be happier! I don't take blood pressure meds, I don't have arthritis bothering my right knee any more so I can walk everyday for at least 40 mins. I feel better than I did for many years. WW is great, but I, like you, gained all losses back and never met goal. You can meet goal with lapband!!Good move for us seniors! (my surgeon, has had his lapband for 7 years), he is a senior too, and very proud of me. Karen

Hi Bjc,

I am 58 and today is my one month bandaversary. I too wish I had done this much sooner.

I have found my self raising my 6 year old grandson and knew I had to do something to keep up with him and still be around until he gets out of high school.

I started my process last August and had my surgery April 25th.

Good luck to you and all of us seniors.

Congratulations of your lose of 100 lbs. That is fantastic. You're walking 2 miles or more?

My plan is to also lose 100 lbs. I know I can do it too. I can't wait to cut back on meds and I expect my asthma will no longer bother me. So much to look forward to.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
