Just Got Approval Thursday

Things are happening very quckly for me right now. After waiting and waiting for a denial so we could appeal, my MD called the insurance, talked to another MD and they approved me!! No appeal!! I am just barely qualified with a BMI of 35.2. The insurance company requires that I lose 10% of my body weight which would have put me below the acceptable BMI. So we were prepared for an appeal especially since I have lost 100 pounds and kept off 65 in the past 4 years.

I did a lot of extra work and got letters from 4 physicians supporting my need for weight loss and the surgery. So I start my preop diet on Tuesday. I feel like I have barely caught my breath. And I am choosing not to tell my family and friends at this point.

I am curious if anyone on this board has dealt with Crohns disease or an ostomy. I have Crohns disease, have had my colon removed and have already had 6 surgeries at this point. Although I am not looking forward to having more surgery I am really looking forward to being healthier. I weighed 325 before I got sick 6 years ago. I lost 100 pounds over two years but when my Mom died 3 years ago I put 35 pounds back on. I have struggled to get the scale to move since then despite working out almost every day and watching what I eat. I am looking forward to having the lap band as a tool to help me reach my goals.
