Lap Band Scheduled For 5/23/12 So Nervous!!

Recommended Posts

Im new here and have been just reading post for the past few months, but now i feel like i would like to talk to others about this. Im not telling alot of people i know about it, my family knows and a few close friends but thats it. Im just nervous, Im nervous about the the procedure and about not waking up or something going wrong. I went and had my preops done the other day and talked about it with the nurses and they were great, they made me feel alittle better about it then I decided to tall a close friend to and he told me that it was bad i shouldt do it his family knew a guy who had the bypass done, bla, bla, bla and his family found him dead in front of his x-mas tree. I guess it was due to an infection that had spread to through his body.. I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten these kind of reactions.. Or if anyone else who is pre op has these worries, and i'd like to hear from some post op people to. I need to do this i need to be healthy for my family. And myself. I started my liquid diet on wensday, i can have three shacks, which is hard for me to drink all of them and i can eat a small health meal for dinner, i feel good better then i thought i would, i was having headaches but they have seemed to pass. Is it bad that i only do 2 shackes and the meal plus my vitamins.. Tomarrow im going to try and start doing the three a day. Thank you for listening!!

Yes , my grandma decided two days after my surgery to call all the family and tell them to watch the 20/20 special that ran last night bc people are dying from lap band and it could be me and I could be leaving my kids behind. Mind you, she waited till after the proceedure was done to say a word! I was and still am pussed off! There is a bigger risk of dying by car wreck, domestic violence, or any other risk. Doesn't

Mean we don't get married, or drive cars....

I totally feel your pain!

Our surgeries are the same day. Don't be nervous. There are risk as with anything you do in life. When it's your time it's your time plan and simple. It isn't going to matter what when or how. By doing this you have a much better chance at increasing your health not decreasing it. I've been studying it in detail for 3 years. 99% of the time if something goes wrong it's because we've done something wrong. Just follow your doctors orders and you'll do fine. I wish you the best of luck. Please keep in contact.

I did so much research before my surgery. I heard the horror stories, watched actual surgeries on youtube and weighed alol the pros and cons I could even imagine. I have 6 kids, 4 grandkids and a husband. This made me think a lot and after it was all said and done, I went ahead and took that big leap of faith and got banded. Never had a problem. It just took me 2 weeks to recoup after the surgery but then again, I always have had a slight reaction to anesthesia and the self healing stitches. They knew this beforehand, I was accomadated and had to have actual string stitches that had to be taken out later. Other than that, it's been a piece of cake! I have now lost 50 lbs! I for one, am so glad I did this! My regular MD asked for my surgeons name and asked if I would recommend him and I said of course!

The more knowledge you have of what is happening, the better you'll feel. Like you say, there are risks in all our everyday lives yet we're still here! Who knows, maybe without the band, you'll have a much shorter life. You just never know.

My best friend died from diabetes at 26 yrs old.I got gestational diabetes with my son in 2009.they told me because of my weigh If I didn't have it after his birth I would probably get it back with a couple of yrs.death is inevitable but dying from diabetes, high blood pressure, and other weight related diseases is not.I'd rather die in plane crash or something that was out of my control than to know that

My demise was all my own fault.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
