So for broth, instead of buying cans of broth cuz the taste is awful..i have been buying progresso light chicken noodle and draining the broth (my son eats the noodles and veggies) I did not buy the low sodium one because during the week pre-op i did the light one as well and never had an issue with edema.

this morning however i woke up with noticable swelling in my feet and ankles...im sure its from the broth adn maybe because i only had 32 oz of Water yesterday..but it was all i could handle. I had 1 cup of broth 3 different times yesteday and honestly only reason i had it was to have something in me to take my lortab so i didnt get nauseas (per instructions from surgeon) otherwise i would have been fine in my plain water, crystal light, and sf popsicles

my plan today is more water and less broth..just hope i can do with less meds then.

i have torsemide that my primary gave me last fall when i had a bout of edema that seemed to last over a month...havent taken it in forever, but considered calling surgeon and seeing if it would be ok to take..but im gonna see if it goes down at all by mid day from me increasing my water

oh and yes i have been up and walking becasue i know that helps eleviate it as well, and when i am sitting i will elevate my feet.

anyone else have this issue right after surgery and what did you do

There could be many reasons why your feet and legs are swelling you need to call your surgeon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
