Had Lap Band, Now Considering Bypass...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had lapband surgery in November 2009. I had success and lost over 70lbs. About 1.5 year after I got diagnosed with major depression disorder. It wa bad to the point I was getting out of bed. I FINALLY have that under control after almost a year of trying out different medications, spending some time in the hospital and therapy. In that whole process I gained all the weight back I lost plus about 20lbs. I'm trying to get it back off now. Nothing I do seems to work to even lose a pound. I am back in my fat clothes from before the surgery. Now I am considering bypass. I hate my body right now. It sucks not being able to walk distances or go up a flight of stair with out being winded. Even though I did it such a short time ago. I'm still trying to do it on my own first but I dont know if I can. Also I am embarrassed to go back to my surgeon to even discuss bypass.

Have you gone back to your surgeon to get help now with the band? Maybe you could use a fill or some nutritional advice.

I think you should give your Dr. a call. First did you stop getting your band filled? how long has it been since you seen your dr. last. Your Dr. still might be able to help you with your band, give him/her a call and give it a chance.

I haven't tried my surgeon yet. My band cannot be filled anymore. When it was tighter before I couldn't eat anything. Even drinking Water hurt. They had to take Fluid out of it.

You may want to try a complete unfill and then start the process of fills again.

don't be embarrassed. i've been told numerous times dr's have seen and heard it all. they are there to help you with your health, not to outwardly judge you.

You have been through sooo much that going to meet with your Dr. should be a piece of cake.. (ha no pun inteneded). If you can get through the roller coaster ride of depression you can do this... Just take a deep breath pick up the phone and call your doctor. you will be glad you did and wonder why you were soooo hesitant. The more you put it off the more you are hurting only you. You have come this far do whats best for you and call and ask for help. I wish you all the luck :)

You had success with he band before you just fell off the band wagon for awhile. I did the same thing for different reasons but I just got back on the wagon a week ago and I'm feeling good. I talked to the doctor and was ready to Go fo the sleeve but he suggested I talk to the nutritionist first. So I made an appointment with her and she went over what I eating and we made a few changes and in the first week I lost 6lbs.

The changes were simple like instead of using reg Peanut Butter in my Protein Shakes I use PB2 ( which in a powder peanut butter with a lot less fat and calories) also adding ground flaxseed to my shakes for the Omega 3. Simple but helping don't give up because the same hing can happen with he bypass and sleeve. Good luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
