Band Filled Or Not Filled At Time Of Surgery

Recommended Posts

As I have stated, I have no fill in my band. Today, I ate some grits(instant) and had major back, head, chest and abd pain. I waited about 2 hours and it got better. I decided to have some yogurt, one spoonful and I again had the symptoms. I also took a sip of Water to get down a pain pill, same pain...is this normal on a no fill lap band one week out?

Yesterday I had no issues with eating at all..and I had grits for Breakfast also

Thanks

I was banded 9/23/2011 - my surgeon primed the band with 3.5cc at the time of surgery; However, I had to return to the Dr. and have a total unfill 3 days post surgery - I had swollen to the point where i could not keep down anything, even liquid pain meds. So, now I am almost 7 months post-surgery. Down about 60 lbs, with 60 more to go, and I just now have 4.5cc in a 10cc band - I seem to be doing well - I can eat almost everything as long as I take my time, chew well, and eat slowly (the eat slowly part has always been part of my difficuties). I have had fills as small as .25cc and have never received more than .5cc at any one time.

Progress is slower than I hoped, and I feel as if I am working at this hard -- going to the gym to workout at least 3 or 4 times per week - difficult for me due to osteoarthritis in both knees, but I do the recombent bike for 10 miles and swim 1/4 mile each time at the gym. I do not regret the band -- it has put me on track for better health overall. I am rewarding myself with a trip to Europe in June - London/Prague/Budapest. I now feel like I can sit in one of those nasty airplane seats (in the cheap seats) without feeling guilty, and I am really looking forward to it.

I feel as if the band is what I thought it would be -- just one tool to assist me in reaching better health goals - but it won't do the work for you -- you have to do the work for yourself, just with a little help from "Skinny" (that's what I've named my band).

Hope all of you do well with your journey.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
