"prescribing Medication" To Others On The Forum

Recommended Posts

I do not think it is right for anyone to tell others what medication to take for certain symptoms.Remember that someone may have a pre-existing condition that may have adverse effect with certain medicine. It is best to suggest for them to see their doctor.

I haven't read anything on this forum from anyone that has "prescribing" rights. I think someone would naturally need to see a doctor to have meds prescribed.

I think this is true in some forms but not others. I personally think that this sight is here so that others can take advantage of the information and knowladge of issues that thier PEERS are or have experienced. Now if a problem arise with a bander and it is a NEW issue that they are having then I would see for one to ask for advice and take caution in proactivly using it untill they can get in with thier surgen to be advised on this issue. But if is a issue that one has had before, the advice they were given by thier DR didn't work I see no problem in asking other BANDERS what they have tried and what worked... Asking can save allot of time and pain, while your trying these many concoctions.. THAT may not work... This is my PERSONAL thought on the matter..

People do not tell others what to take, generally they tell others what has worked for them. A person can then discuss the options with their Dr. Or the other scenario I see is that someone has been told to take a medication but they are struggling with the form it is in e.g a large tablet, others then give alternatives that are the same active ingredient but in a more easily taken form.

If something is an OTC medication then people can go and but the meds themselves anyway, if it is something you need a script for then you will have to discuss it with your Dr.

No one has that right and that is why we should make suggestions in regards to what have worked for us. We should never explicitly tell anyone to go and purchase any pills, potion ect. Over the counter drugs are just as harmful. Always refer them to their doctors, that is included in the follow up or after surgery care. I know many of you will not agree, but I read it so many times on here.

What exactly are you referring to? If someone posts that they have Constipation, I am going to suggest milk of magnesia. If someone is having acid reflux, I would recommend they go to the Dr due to the underlying issue of what's causing the reflux... I would have the tendency to agree with you for more serious medications or how to take prescribed medicines, but believe it's a great resource for bandsters to have a forum to ask about what OTC's may work or not work.

I think you are being a bit over the top.

If I told you to go and jump off a cliff because it had worked for me would you do it? No I doubt it. You have to give people credit.

If I said that aspirin worked wonderfully for my pain I also doubt that you would rush out and buy it. You might consider it. Hopefully you would be aware of any issues that you might have with aspirin. If you were already on an anticoagulant e.g warfarin then you would know that you should not take it. You would not need to go to your Dr and ask because you would already be informed.

Hey, I can express myself and so can you. You do not know if someone is already taking medication that if s/he takes even am over the counter drug ad " aspirin' , what other symptoms or sickness may occur.

Elcee.....I have never and hopefully will never ask you for medical or any other advice. SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT ME TAKING ADVICE FROM YOU.

People simply make suggestions based on their own personal experience. No one is claiming to be a doctor nor is anyone forcing pills/potions/lotions on anyone else. We're all adults here and we're all quite capable of making our own decisions, including when we need to ask for a doctor's advice before taking OTC medication.

No offense, and I don't mean this harshly, but I think you're underestimating people's common sense and intelligence here.

Oh wow! Well 1st off I appreciate reading about ppl exp with certain drugs whether it be otc or rx. Nobody on here is a dr and we know we should check with our dr they are just trying to help. Plus it's a forum you can post whatever you want. Just because you dnt think it's right doesn't mean everyone else feels the same. And I would be glad to take some advice from Elcee anyday......

As I said before, we are all free to express ourselves. I said what I wanted to whether you agreed or not, and you may express yourself however you please. I am not looking for anyone to agree with me.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
