Should I Get A Fill?

Recommended Posts

I have 9.5cc in a 14cc band. I have not yet reached the green zone yet. I have a problem with phlegm(a lot coming up) when i eat solid foods, but if i eat soft/wet foods(soups, chilli, smoothies) I have no problems(everything goes down and nothing comes up). should I go ahead and have another fill or wait.

I would talk to your doctor and see what they say.

Are you able to eat a cup or less of food per sitting? Can you go 4-5 hours between meals without being hungry?

Also, you talk about phlegm (aka sliming). Are you taking small bites and chewing it beyond thoroughly? When I say small bites, I mean like the size you'd serve to a toddler, really small. I know for me, this is key to eating without sliming or feeling stuck.

Well, if you are having trouble with solids now it will just get worse with a fill. You should be able to eat solids and not slime. What to you consider your "green zone"? Everyone has a different idea of this, usually put in our heads by our doctors etc.

I consider myself to be in my green zone. I can eat anything, bread, Pasta, etc as long as it take little bites and eat slow enough. I get full pretty quickly, I don't always choose to stop and can eat more. It is realizing where to stop that I sometimes struggle with.

I am using a baby spoon.

I would definitely talk to your doctor and tell them about the sliming before deciding on a fill.

Is it possible you're over-filled??

I did, 2 weeks ago. He called me in some acid reflux meds. It works sometimes. but for the most part if i just eat Soups and chilli with a little rice, i'm ok.

But you shouldn't be restricted to only those foods. I mean, you're eating with a baby spoon, so it's not too big of bites. What did your doctor say? I would insist on scan/barium swallow to check the band and make sure it's still right where it belongs.

If you are having trouble with solids, you probably don't need a fill. My surgeon does not want me having liquids with calories at all. No shakes or Soups.

As a previous poster said, if you get more fill, you're likely to just have more trouble with solids. shakes and soups (slider foods) won't keep you satisfied. It's the ability to eat solids comfortably that will put you in the green zone. How many CCs are in your band really doesn't matter, other than monitoring for a leak.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
