i dont make my own Protein Bars but i used to make "Breakfast Cookies." I found the recipe in the cooking magazine Taste of Home or its sister magizine Quick Cooking( now called Simple and Delicious) If I remember right they were made with oatmeal, raisins and/or nuts and cooked bacon or bacon bits and some other items. YUMMY !

I found the recipe for Breakfast Cookies. mix together 1/2 cup soft butter or marg, 3/4 cup sugar or Splenda, 1 egg. Add 1 cup flour, and 1/4 tsp baking soda. mix well. mix in 10 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled, and 2 cups cornflakes and 1/2 cup raisins or chopped nuts. Drop by rounded Tbls 2 in apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 350 degrees , 15-18 mins until lightly browned.Cool for 2 mins before removing to wire racks. store in fridge, makes 2 doz. ( Quick Cooking- year 2000 ) Enjoy !

I can't imagine eating something that combines bacon with cornflakes and raisins - to me that sounds really weird.

I know, i know, they sound weird , dont they ?? But i just loved them. i guess it depends on what you like to eat. I love anything grainy, nutty, sweet and/or crunchy ! My favorite healthy Snacks are apples or celery with PB, oatmeal with almonds, raw nuts with dried fruit or a mini clif bar. My not so healthy favorite snack would be a oatmeal , white chocolate and macadamia nut cookie. To each their own !

I don't think making something with 1/2 cup butter is the best idea. I did some research into quinoa Protein bar recipes and put my own together- they are in the oven right now! I'll let you know.

I tried making my own Protein bars, followed the recipe exactly, but it just didn't taste quite right and I was too tired after working out to do it myself. I just shopped around until I found two new bars, Quest and Lenny and Larry's.

I tried Quest first but wasn't a fan; I was a lot happier with the better consistency and taste of Lenny and Larry's Protein Brownie.

Ok- I have taken the lazy way out but it's working. I have a handful of almonds and organic chocolate chips! It's good, gets thru my tight morning band and makes me feel good for a few hours!

I don't calorie count or Protein count. I focus on healthy whole foods. I guess the term for it is , "clean eating". Almonds are really healthy and eating chocolate actually helps me to not feel deprived so I don't snack so much. Actually lots of Protein Bars have choc chips!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
