Confused

So during my psych eval the psych doctor said the most I would most likely lose would be 50-60lbs on the band. I weigh 265 and i am 5'10". and he also asked if i would be fine if i weighed 200lbs because statistics show the most i would lose was between 50 and 60 lbs.

thoughts?

Personally, I do not go by any of those statistics because it is an average taking the people who did not work it mixed with the ones who did use it as it was intended. If you search and read a lot on here you will see many many success stories of people who worked the band, changed their habits and have beaten those statistics over and over.

Have not seen many or any that i recall where people worked it properly and did not succeed in excess of the "average". It is only a tool after all, it is what you do with it that matters. You can do it.

You're literally telling my story. I'm 5'10 and weighed 260 when I got my surgery approved. I opted for the band over RNY or GS because I didnt want to have uncontrollable weightloss. I have been large all of my life and I think that 200 lbs is still a healthy weight for me. Doc told me that I would get down to 130 if I got RNY. I feel that I would be too skinny and sickly looking.

I think it's all personal preference though ... if you're not comfortable with only losing 60 lbs, then you do have other options - you can get a more aggressive surgery, or you can diet and work your azz off with the band and shoot for 75-80 lbs lost too.

Im shooting to get down to 190 so that I can least say I'm in "onederland"

Statistics......take the best number (those successful) and take the worst number (those who are failures) and come up with a average number in between.

Means nothing!!!!! It is still up to you what you want!

That is exactally what they told me too, I answered yes because I did not want to fail the phych eval, but inside I was thinking, "HELL NO" I am not going to be happy with only loosing 50-60 pounds WTH? ..... lol I agree with what his-spirt & B-52 are saying you can use it and lose it or not, I have seen a few on here that has lost over 200 pounds (thank God or the stastics might be 20-30 lbs)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
