So I am a social work student with a 4.0 and will be going into finals in may. My question is whether or not to do my three week liquid diet during finals or should I wait. I am somewhat afraid I might loose my insurance in June and that is why I have the rush but it is not for sure if I will lose it or not. Was your liquid diet so draining that you couldn't handle something like finals???

It honestly wasn't that draining for me. I did mine around midterms before spring break and I didn't have a problem. I think the worst part was after the surgery honestly. I was rushed as well. My insurance was restarting on March 30, I got my surgery March 27 so it was cutting it close. I didn't really have a choice but I worked out. Just stay hydrated.

Three weeks liquids....wow

Im glad I never had to do that...had preop diet of bars, shakes and small meal, then I recall liquids day before and nothing after midnight day of surgery...

I felt pretty good while I was on liquids...but I wasn't on them for 3 weeks...yikes! I didn't feel week and if anything I felt much better. Most likely because I am type II diabetic and my blood sugar was normal during that time. Good luck on whatever you decide!

I did 3 weeks of liquids, and had no problems energy wise. The hard part for me was being hungry all the time, and I did it while I was on vacation. it was hard - but I'm glad I did it!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
