Here is a list I put together befoe my surgery.....If you inbox me your email I will be glad to send it to you so you can print it out. I have tried numerous times to attach it to this site some how, but it just won't work.

Just remember every doctor is different and where I put something may not be where your doctor would put it.

Digital food scale

Bathroom Scale

Blender (consider the ones that you can blend using a travel mug) I bought this one at Walmart for $79 http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find&_ta=1&search_query=ninja%20kitchen%20system%20pulse&_tt=ninja

Chewable Calcium

Chewable Daily Vitamin

Gas X

Liquid Tylenol

Benefiber (I mix this with the kellog’s Protein mix below)http://www.walmart.com/ip/Benefiber-Kiwi-Strawberry-Flavored-Fiber-Drink-Mix-Stick-Packs-24ct/17325206

Metamucil Clean and Clear

Stage 1 Clear Liquids

Protein Power: This is just going to be trail an error. Looks like the most popular are (powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, Jay Robin, Premiere, NewWhey

Canned chicken broth (the night before your surgery, consider simmering it with some veggies like carrots, onions, potatoes, even some of your favorite herbs. I would leave all the veggies in the broth until the next day. Then have someone strain them off, saving the broth for you)

Favorite Soups Consider lower salt versions(use the larger size cans of Soup if they make them in your band. Then mix a couple of cans of chicken or beef broth with your favorite Soup. simmer and strain)

SF Jello (both premade for convenience and boxed for when you feel like making it)

SF Popsicles

Pedialyte Popsicles

Kellogs Water ready Protein mix (link below)

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Special-K2O-Strawberry-Kiwi-Protein-Water-Mix-4.7-oz-10ct/10891803

Gatorade G2 or Propell

Hebal Tea

Diet fruit Juices

NSA-Carnation Instant Breakfast Mix

Skim Milk

Stage 1-Full Liquid -All of the above+

Cream Soups (thinned with water or skim milk)

(consider sprinkling ½ scoop of unflavored protein power into soup and blend…watch the temp of the soup….the protein power may clump at high temps.)

SF pudding (premixed for convenience and boxed for later)

Yogurt (thinned out) (light or greek) blend well

Baby Foods (add a jar of baby food fruit with your Protein Powder and thin with water or skim milk)

Stage 2-Puree

Egg Substitute

Oatmeal (thinned)

You need to find out your surgeon's specific plan.

Some call for a week of clear liquids, which would be broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles.

Others (mine) let you do full liquids, which consist of pureed Soups that can go through a sieve, Tomato soups, yogurt without chunks or seeds, Protein shakes, SF pudding.

I've included the list from my blog of things I would get if I were to do it again. Also, like you said, don't buy too much stuff. I ended up buying a lot of broths but never drank them because I was allowed full liquids and I ended up freezing a majority of the yogurt I bought because I way overestimated the amount I would eat.

If I were to do it again, this is what I would buy:

General Meds:

- sublingual B-12

- Biotin

- O-purity Band Multivitamin or Centrum Chewables

- Calcium + Vit D & K chews

- chewable or dissolveable Iron supplement

- Liquid adult Tylenol

- Probiotic Pearls

- Milk of Magnesia

- Scarzone to put on incision sites after they have fully closed and the steri strips have come off.

Stage One:

- Peewee Pillowpet to hold against stomach.

- Lipton cup-a-soup Cream of chicken

- Soups that can be pureed and put through a sieve.

- Peppermint tea

- Protein powder- Body Fortress chocolate, Vanilla

- 3 Protein mix shakers

- Yogurt without seeds or chunks. Only two or three cases = 8 to 12 yogurts.

- SF syrups

- Pillow "chair"

Stage Two:

- Mashed Potatoes

- food processor. I bought a Ninja Kitchen Pulse so I can get rid of some of my other appliances.

- Applesauce

- Cottage cheese

- Oatmeal

- Refried Beans

- Soups that can be pureed to consistency of cottage cheese.< /span>

It totally depends on what your surgeon recommends. I'm on 2 weeks of liquid Protein Shakes and Water only. I can supplement with broths, SF Jello, SF popcicles, and not much else. Goal is 60grams of Protein a day from protein shakes and 64 oz of water. During Pre-op found out I was lactose intolerant and had to switch from whey protein powders to Egg White powder. Jay Robb vanilla mixes well with vanilla silk. Overall it will totally depend on what your surgeon wants.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
