Anyone Ended Up With Kidney Stones Or Pancreatitis?

Recommended Posts

Went to the ER yesterday with intense pain and fear that my band had slipped. After ultrasounds, bloodwork, and an upper GI I know that I have kidney stones and pancreatitis. They admitted me to the hospital and I'm having surgery in the afternoon. I didn't even think they did surgery for kidney stones... All I can say is TG it's not my band slipping or eroding!!!! Has anyone else dealt with these issues. Waiting until morning to talk to the doctor and to get more information on causes, etc... It makes it s little difficult to sleep!

Three months after my lap band I ended up in emergency room with extreme pain.

I had pancreitis also they said a stone got loose from my bad gall bladder. They had me on nothing my mouth for 2 days before surgery. They had to clear the infection before the gall bladder could be removed. My Lapband surgeon preformed the surgery using the same incision made during lapband. Everything turned out great no other problems. Some times gall bladders go bad with extreme dieting not uncommon with lap banders.

Thanks Larraine. That helps me! I'm sitting here not knowing what the heck is going on. Haven't seen a doctor since yesterday afternoon. Nurse this morning now says its gallstones... I questioned it because last night they said kidney stones and she said she just got on and she just read what was on my paperwork. I'm getting anxious not knowing anything. I was asking which doctor was performing the surgery and she said she didn't know... Hello! I also do t know what time.... Weird!

Gallstones can happen with rapid weight loss. My surgeon puts patients on Actigall for 6 months post-op to help avoid the problem. Where is your pain? Lower back is kidney, by your shoulder blade is gallbladder. Pancreas pain I believe is upper abdominal. But I am not a medical professional.

I just googled weight loss and kidney stones..there is a correlation.

As a side note, when my appendix went bad, I did not meet my surgeon until about 20 minutes before surgery, after they had been paging him for 3 hours.

I've had three kidney stones since getting my lapband and one was so large I had to have it surgically removed too. A lot of things can cause kidney stones...what we really need to be careful of is too much Protein in your diet and dehydration. Check out this website it has some good info http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/kidney-stones/DS00282/DSECTION=causes

Please watch what kind of Calcium supplements u take. Calcium carbonate, which most of us can find chewable at any grocery store, can be a big culprit for kidney stones and gout. Make sure your calcium is calcium citrate. I bought caltrate or something similar thinking the "trate" part would be citrate nope carbonate so not taking those anymore. Haven't found any over the counter chewable calcium citrate guess I'll order them from a WLS site. Hate spending a ton but if it prevents ks I'll do it

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
