Wierd Question - Fake Nails, Remove Or Keep?

Recommended Posts

I finally get my surgery date tomorrow! Yay! It feels like I have been waiting forever (stupid 6 month waiting period!)...

I wear acrylic nails and I need a fill. (Soon I'll be getting a whole different kind of fill - yay again!) I was going to go in today but I'm wondering if I should just have them removed. Was anyone told to remove them prior to the procedure? I've checked online and of course it's been a mixed bag of responses... just curious what they've told previous banders?

Thanks!

Hospitals sometimes require you to remove them, no nailpolish and no jewelry...for your own safety

I am really interested in this as well. I have had 2 c-sections and a knee surgery, and I can't remember having to have them removed? I'll do what I need to though. Any one else know something about this?

I wore nails the day of surgery and they didn't say anything. Piercing make up n jewelry has to come off though.

You don't have to remove nails, might have to remove polish on one finger to get an accurate pulse ox!

I had my nails on when I went in, and they did not remove the polish. As a matter of fact they used it my "gorgeous" nails as the topic of conversation while they were putting me under. When I quit talking about it, they know I was out!

I have gels and just had to remove polish from one fingernail and one toe for pulse ox too.

I had my nails and some makeup on (some liquid, they probably didn't notice), they didn't say anything. My nails are "pink and whites" so they don't have polish on them anyway. I had polish on my toes though, they didn't say anything about that either.

You do not have to take off acrylic nails. I also have them and I got them filled the day before my surgery they were fine.

That is so funny they did the same to me. I have had anestecia in the past and freaked out. I was worried about this happening again but when I woke up I was laughing to myself because I don't remember quitting talking.

I was told no makeup jewelry or polish :/. . It is strange how much what different people are told varies. But I'm sure if your doc wanted them off they wouldnhave told you during your pre op appointment

I kept mine but had a french mani so they could see the nail beds, and no polish on my toes for the same reason.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
