Any Ladies Out There With Pcos? Banded Or In The Process?

Recommended Posts

First thing I wanted to reply with was that I'm 5 months post op and I used to have to take birth control in order to get a normal period. I dumped the birth control about 3 months ago because it was giving me the worst acne and GUESS WHAT?! I just finished a normal period for the 2nd month in a row!!!! YAY!

In regards to the comment below:

It is ok to have a carb free plate and if you find yourself shaky after working out maybe have a small carb item like a pice of fruit before a workout or a small baked potato but only eat 1/2.

A low carb diet has always helped me with PCOS and I recently tried doing Atkins w/ my lapband. ( I really like atkins and have no issues with it) But this time I was getting light headed/dizzy quite frequently and for longer than just the first couple of days.

Dr. Westman, the dr who just wrote the New Atkins book actually practices at Duke (Where I had my lapband surgery done) and he has worked with the dietitians that I work with. My dietitian explained that lapband patients on atkins should acutally up sodium intake just a touch. Maybe have a cup of chicken broth midday. It is supposed to help with that low carb dizziness!

I thought that was an awesome tip right from the King of Low Carb and wanted to share!!

I have PCOS and was banded on May 17th. I have not had a fill yet and I am getting very hungry. Over the hoilday I cheated, and I feel awful. I was losing wight and then it stopped (of course.) I go in soon to get my first fill. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it. I have dreams of being thin. I only know one other person personally who has done this and if I ask or tell her some of my complaints, she starts in with gossip to others. Does anyone have suggestions on how to over come this? ( the eating thing not the person talking!! lol)

Willpastons.... I was banded 24 months ago and have been dealing with the same thing. Although I have been diagnosed with PCOS for 18 yrs I was only newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes since November. And I didn't take it well. I have spoken to my dr and nutritionist and have decided to go band to sleeve. Let me know what happens with your journey! I feel like I hit a road block with no Detour.< /p>

I have PCOS and insulin resistant and was banned Nov 08, 2012.. I did really good at first but find now I am craving everything.. I have lost 57 to date. I go for a check up/fill thur. I am 6.7cc When I go over 6.9 I get sick and throw almost everything up except liquids.. I think I may have strechted my puch cause i can eat more. And get hungry faster.. I got on my scale and seen I m up 4lbs so mad at myself uuggghhhhh...

I went on a cruise in May and acutally lost a lb. But I think it is cause I walked all over.. I cant take Metformin I have very bad side effects from it and dont get my period due to a hysterectomy but left the ovaries..

I am so mad and just want to stuff my face but I know I cant.. I guess I just needed to vent. Thank you for listening..

Hello ladies, I am so glad I found this thread, and I will look for the other one too. I have pcos and am going to a seminar next wed...my insurance does a great job of covering the band and fills. I have a lot to learn about the band although I have been researching like crazy but even with all the info I knew having pcos would make this band different for me than someone without it. The only time I've ever been successful losing weight during infertility treatment to get pregnant(now have an awesome little guy) but since then I have gained that and more back, of course like we always do. So I am pretty much just starting this journey and appreciate so much that you have shared your tips & experiences for me to learn from!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
