I too am insulin dependent with a pump. I do find my sugars drop a lot since getting the band. I have decreased my basal and bolus sooo much but still bottom out, it's very frustrating:/ I tend to drop at night and find I need to drink juice because have a hard time eating anything early in the day. I hate having to have the extra calories but do what you gotta do to feel better. I wish I had some good advice, I would just say talk to your doctor and see if you can decrease your insulin. Lots of luck to you. Keep me posted, I can use any advice you may have to offer too.

I was not insulin dependent when i was diabetic and had type 2 diabetes because of high insulin resistance and weighing 400lbs. Can i suggest that you u may need to look at things a little differently now u are banded, i would certainly make sure u keep a food log and count the calories for your weight loss but also discuss with the doctor about the reductions needed in your insulin to compensate for the reduced amount of food that u are able to eat.

Can i suggest that you read up on Dr. Bernstein and try some of his suggestions .. even at my starting weight i was able to avoid becoming insulin dependent by following his rules and just taking meds for the amount of resistance i had .. it certainly doesnt hurt. He makes a lot of sense in what he advises and many people have been helped by his regime. I still follow a lot of his rules now even tho my diabetes is gone, but equally know people who are type 1 and manage to really control their lows and highs by following his guidelines .. link is to wiki

it must be really hard to manage the band along with being insulin dependent but reading up on information costs nothing and may even help

I wish you both good luck and success on both counts :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
