Chew, Chew , Chew:lesson Learned The Hard Way!

Recommended Posts

Well, was banded late February and had my first and awful " stuck episode" yesterday. I was slicing that delicious warm and tasty corned beef, totally forgot about the band , and tossed a too large piece into my mouth and promptly got stuck!!!!!

I suffered greatly from 7:30 until almost 2 AM. Productive burping, sliming, mucous and finally was able to vomit up the offending corned beef. I tried chewing the papaya enzyme tablets, but I think because of the fibrous nature of the corned beef, they really didn't work.

I knew what was happening but actually called my doctor who of course, told me to be patient and it will either pass or I will bring it back up.

My back, between shoulder blades hurt awfully and I am exhausted today.

But, this was a hard lesson and I learned it well.

Today, I am smarter and staying on liquids for the day.

bread is my worst enemy. And I can chew it but still gets stuck. My dr says everyone is different.

I have absolutely no craving for bread anymore! Which is not a bad thing.

Hope you feel better!

I have also heard some people recommend pineapple juice. I bought one of those little six can packs just in case ;)

The first time being stuck is an awful feeling, but hopefully it won't happen again for you! Unlike me, who gets stuck weekly and even daily at times....the only thing I can say is now I've learned how to get it back up quickly.

Kr - you are very early in the process and most likely don't have any restriction yet. Therefore can probably eat anything -if you choose to do so. And you probably won't get stuck. Don't worry, all will come!

The band is a very crude learning tool in situations like this. After a few episodes like you had, the lesson is learned. Bummer, but all in the process. Take it easy after something like this with some liquids and then go slow with more solid stuff. ......lesson learned. This is one of the reasons the band works for me.

I just went through a similar situation, but it was Antibiotics, and getting into a hot argument with the Dr...

I don't walk around and think of myself as a Lap Band Patient 24 hrs. a day. I think of it when I eat, or when I try on close, getting weighed, and seeing a Dr...

Well the pills were getting to me, so I went to see her for some liquid antibiotics. She said why? Its not like your a Bariatric Patient or something ! I shook my head in disbelief like I didn't hear that. I said just because i'm not a bypass patient doesn't mean i'm not a Bariatric Patient. She said you only have the band.... I said it gets tight, so I need a liquid medication. She said NO ! So she started, and I got mad and dished it back. So I pd. the price dearly . My back hurt, shoulders, my stomach swelled shut, I couldn't even swallow Water. I'm just now getting back to drinking Soup and Water.< /p>

I hope I don't have to be unfilled, and I learned to control my feelings about what other people say and think.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
