Scared Of Exercise

Recommended Posts

I dont know why but whenever I think of exercising i get extremely anxious. Does anyone else have this type of fear of exercise? What have you done to get over it and start getting yourself in the habit of exercise ?

I'm 10 months post op I've lost 84 pounds and only exercised three times.... But now I'm not proportioned right because I haven't been working out.

Help!

start out by walking, it is the easiest thing to do.

You don't have to have a formalized program. Just be more active. Park at the far side of the parking lot for starters. If you have a desk job, when ever you print something walk a few steps further before picking up the document. When you get your mail, walk half your block first.

I hate exercise, too!

I used to hate exercise too. I started by walking around my neighborhood and doing Walk Away the Pounds DVDs. My weight began to stall and I needed to bump things up, so I joined a local gym and signed up for personal training. I was scared that I would do what I've always done and be really gung ho for the first couple weeks and fizzle out. I stuck with it and my weight had been steadily dropping since. My hatred of exercise is now outweighed by my love of dropping pounds and dress sizes and endless compliments! I'm a certified gym rat now, something I never thought I would be able to say. All this just from taking the first step out my front door and around the block.

You have to find something that you enjoy, and not think of it as exercise. In my case just like you I use to hate exercise, I did not grow up in a family that exercises of even be into sports or teams. I now enjoy and actually LOVE going to the gym and take the Zumba classes. This week I just finish my 6 day in a roll of taking a Zumba class. I think that's the key, try out different classes, start out slow, until you find something that you will enjoy.

Try not to think of it as exercise but of finding activities that you enjoy doing. I love to dance and fortunately so does my husband. Added some walking, hubby joined me. Added swimming, now hubby is doing adult swim lessons. Added cycling, now hubby is cycling with me. Needless to say I am still losing weight and getting to spend plenty of time with my husband! I haven't spent any money on a gym or personal trainer, although we are pretty hooked now on our cycling and that can be a financial drain! LOL.

I started with Walk Away The Pounds too! Its GREAT for a beginner. She starts you off slow..so you can go at a pace that feels right for you. You can find her DVDs at Wal Mart. Good luck hun!

I think you should start off with some light exercise, such as walking etc. Then proceed to harder ones, walking around 15 minutes a day will get you into the mood to exercise, it sure helped me =)

Try Zumba! I've never been an exercise fan, but this is something I really enjoy!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
