Can Not Sleep On My Left Side. Can You?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am almost one year post op.

I have noticed, from time to time that my stomach hurts near the port site.

Like a sore muscle. Or I can feel it like it is swollen. Mostly it is after I eat.

I also can no longer sleep on my left side and if I roll over on my stomach during the

night, it wakes me. Uncomfy.

Anyone else have this?

Yikes! I am a stomach sleeper and was stressed about how I would survive the 2 or so weeks post surgery... Good luck I hope it calms for you

Yes, sometimes it seems my port is irritated on the left. Also, with waistbands of pants/skirts; sometimes I need to readjust things.

I'm only 5 days post op and sleeping on my left side is not an option. Sounds like it may never be...

That stinks! Just wanted to let you know that I have no issue with any pain by my port, could be the placement of yours. I would ask my doctor. Good Luck!!

Yes, this happens to me. Especially when I eat too much. My port area I think rubs against my stomach when it is so full. But laying on my left side makes it feel better.

I have to use a small pillow to lay on my side comfortably.

I've slept on my sides since the day of surgery and on my tummy within two days after.

I guess I'm lucky but I've never had an issue with mine. I never feel it, it never hurts, and honestly I forget it's even there unless I see the scar or am getting a fill.

I use a pillow, too. Maybe as you get down to your ideal weight there's less cushioning around the port.

I sleep on both sides with no issue.

I, almost, always have used and still use a pillow to sleep on my side. I don't really need to , but find mysef more comfortable that way. I have had days where overeating will cause pain.

sometimes I have pain in my port area, and have trouble sleeping because of it. But the pain I feel when I sleep on my sides is because I have less padding to keep it soft and squishy! lol

Thank you. I do think it is from over eating. I just had a late snack, since I have not eaten all day and now it is sore.

Think I need to go to weight watchers or something.

Had coffee for Breakfast and lunch and had no problem all day.

But now that I am sitting here, it is starting to bother me.

Thank you.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
