Has Anyone Been (Or Due To Be) Banded At Dolan Park, England?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'd like to hear any views on people's experiences of Dolan Park, England.

I'm still undecided as to whether to stay in England for surgery or go abroad.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sarah xx

 Excellent! I was looking into Dolan this afternoon and now I've just seen an advert for them. Have you done much research on them?

yes,I've looked through loads of stuff. they advertise everywhere! I assumed they do this the gastric bands at everyone of there hospital but perhaps they do other surgery. Dolan is my nearest one anyway. I worked with one of the consultants who does the surgery ( and he was the best in the hospital we worked at) but he's not available when I want it. The same consultants also do the surgery at the Bupa hospitals but it costs £7,000 there! x

If you reseach the surgeon on the bupa site, you get more of an insight .. for example i know now my surgeon has 4 boys, supports Liverpool FC and likes yauchting!

They have a clinic in Liverpool where you go to get your pre-op and post-op adjustments, but from what I understand, Dolan Park is where most of the surgeries are performed... Could be wrong though. I've asked for a consultation  Imagine if we ended up having surgery on the same day? :P

Woah!! If they work for BUPA too then that is saying something! I'm hoping for an evertonian surgeon B) I'll check the BUPA site out. Thank you as usual!!!

oh, that could work well!! If you still didnt want to tell anyone, you could stay in my spare room and my parents could take us there and back. i think you'd have to stay here a second night before being allowed to drive. my surgery is booked for Thursday 29th March ( I was hoping to move it as early as the 22nd March but 2 of our Gp's are away that week and my boss said all the nurses will have full clinics so I can't be spared).

Night xx

That's a very kind offer, thank you Chris! :) I will definitely consider it.

I'll see what the co-ordinators say to me and we'll have a chat :)

Nah night

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
