Trying Weight Watchers?

Recommended Posts

I am sure quite a few on LBT unsuccessfully tried a weight loss program prior to making their decision to get banded. Keeping in mind that the band is just a tool to help assist with weight loss, I was wondering if anyone has tried joining Weight Watchers or another type of weight loss program after they were banded to help w/their weight battle? I know after surgery many of us have a year or more of dietician, psychologist, and group support through our band docs. However, reading through the threads I noticed there are quite a few of us who still struggle with losing the weight and we often turn to other LBT members for suggestions and support. One would think that between the band, a structured weight loss program, the support from the weight loss meetings, and the continued support and advice from LBT members, you would be pounding at weight with constant one-two punches.:boxing::boxing: Any opinions on this out there?

I joined WW after having my surgery. There were a few good points re: exercise and keep your body moving. Problem is that they eat too much for ppl with surgery. I went for 2 meetings and stopped. I was not too impressed. I made more progress with my surgeon's support group.

Banded Sept 2004.

I certainly have thought about going back to WW just for the support

that they give. I agree that they will/do eat alot more and more varied

foods than what I am able to eat. However, during my many (and I do mean many) attempts with them prior to banding, I always stayed for the

meetings and enjoyed the support and tips they gave out. (especially if

they have a good/knowledgeable leader!) Since I am a Mexico banded

patient, I have no support group other than here and some of the other

sites that I have joined. I would definately consider joining again. Maybe

this time, I could make it to "lifetime" lol

I really do like weight watchers, but haven't been since about 6 months before banding. Might be a good idea to hop back in there one of these days :-).

The thing that kept me on track with weight watchers is that I had NO restriction of what I could and couldn't eat - just how much. This for me was a good "lifestyle diet". As long as I counted points faithfully, I lost weight. Then would come my binging and I'd stop counting for a few months or more at a time... UGH. Hopefully the band will keep me from binging and I really did like the support group. Good idea - maybe I will stop back by!

Lifetime Member???? wow - that would be cool! didn't even think about that. That would save a ton of $$!

First things first though.... I've GOT to get to a gym (or just go walk or do Richard Simmons or something --- anything). That is a lifestyle change that I've had a hard time with for sure!

just to get the point info to help me keep track of my journal and calories. The area I'm in has a good support group but nutrition info before surgery was lacking. I am thinking it might help me stay on track.

I rejoined WW after my surgery also.... I like it becasue it's the type of diet that lets you eat anything you want but only 26ish points per day. I guess calories would also be ok to count but I like the points since they allow for less points if the item has more Fiber.

In the past I always liked weight watchers but feld deprived or hungrey a lot. That was discourgaging to me expecially since I'm a slow loser. If I went a week (or two or three) and was perfect to the plan I felt "proud" and "confident" but if I didn't lose that week I was depressed wanted to quit.

I'm hoping that it will be much eaiser to not lose faith since I'm banded. Hoping that the limited quantity on Weight Watchers doesn't feel "limited" Also, I like the e-tools to track my points and excersie it's a nice program. For me I think the band and weight watchers will be a great combination.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
