Getting You Head Around Smaller Sizes!

Recommended Posts

Do you ever go shopping and look at a new size and think "how am I going to get that over my arse, let alone button it"... ;)

I went shopping today just to see what is coming out for spring. I was going to try on some cute capri's and I went to the next size lower as the size I am wearing is getting kinda loose. I looked at these pants and was thinking, there is no way these are going to fit. But I tried them on and they pulled up and zipped and buttoned.. They were darn cute.

The lady that was helping me said they have layaway and that I should get the next size down and have 60 days to lose 10 more pounds. MOTIVATION!!!

I am hanging around the thrift stores, we got some real good ones - many things still have tags on them.. I am changing too fast to spend that much money. what I got 6 weeks ago just took back to the thrift store. in fact today i took 3 large black bags full of clothes. Found some brand new skinny jeans for 3.99 yipeee- they fit! this has got to be the best motivator!

What a fun thread....it is very motivating because being in maintenance has its own gain and lose issues!!!! I think the more fun we have changing clothes the better we feel and the more motivated we are!!!

I once went to a support group that did clothing swap as people changed sizes. I haven't been there in months, but now might be a good time. I was told not to go buy too many new clothes right away, but I went through my closet donated clothes and pulled the smaller sizes that I had pushed to the back of the closet out! Trying on clothes and finding out they are too big is something amazing! Don't know if I will ever do shorts, but a cute pair of new capris would be great, especially in a few sizes smaller than last year! Congrats!

I know I will never do shorts in public, Capris definitely! I have been in tennis shoes and prescription orthotics for so long, I am hoping to be able to wear something sexy even for a short amount of time. I have always loved shoes and was the Imelda

Marcos of America in my skinny days! LOL

Its gonna take a little while for my head to match my body. This week I fit into an old pair of size 12 slacks. I am still wearing some 14s but they are baggy. I went shopping yesterday and for the first time ever, in a dressing room with about 20 things, not one thing was too small--most were too big. I just cant wrap my head around being a size 12! I got 2 pairs of slacks --both size 12 and 2 tops --both size large and top is baggy but it was only $5 so if they would of had a med I would of gotten that. And on top of that--it was a dept store that I freqently used to shop at but I had to ask where the regular sizes are bc I have only shopped in the plus size there.

Im starting to go between 10 and 12 now. So trying on is a must now. Which I use to hate to do. I would just grap and go the first thing thing that looked relatively cute, which was not very much in the big sizes.

But I hold these clothes up thinking they look so small and I cant be that small. My doctor said the other day that I have to consider myself normal now. I am a normal person who just has a few more pounds to lose because most people are overweight by a little bit. What percentage of people are in normal bmi range I wonder? I still think size 10 is my goal, I really couldnt wrap my head around an 8. :)

What a great NSV!! I love going into the dept store and grabbing something I like, and NOT trying it on. But, getting home and having it fit perfectly! Great thread and motivator. Karen

Everyday when I pull on my 7s I don't think they're going to fit! In fact I started having to buy junior sz pants and jeans cuz the 8s butts are too saggy. I still wear xl tops (went from 3x) but I wear 7 on the bottom. I wish we could choose where to lose those last few lbs. It would definitely be from the top. Nice thread

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
