At 6 maths I had only lost like 20 lbs. I didn't even have retricition till I was 5 maths in. Now over 2 yrs, I've lost 104 lbs and about 9 lbs from goal. I lost it alot slower than most but that's ok. I've also noticed that im able to eat alot more recently and thank God I haven't gained.

But that first 6 maths was rough

Marci

marci,

thank you for posting this, I was reading and reading those posts and I was thinking "good gawd, Im a failure" because im 6 months in and I have only lost 20 lbs since surgery, I did lose 25 lbs before surgery but not that much since surgery and I was also like you, I didnt have much restriction until about a month ago, my dr does things very very slowly. I was so glad to read your post and find some comforting in what you posted, I think its great that you have lost what you did and Im glad to know im not the only one to lose so slowly in first 6 months. kinda wish people would focus on losing and being more healthy rather than how much did you lose. even though I havent lost that much, I am thankful for what I have lost and how much healthier I do feel. god bless and thanks for your post

My surgery date was August 19, 2011 and I'm down 60lbs, and from size 20 jeans I'm comfortably wearing a normal size 12 :)

I love the term, comfortable fill. That is exactly what I have. I can only eat about 1/2 cup of food, then I'm done. I'm satisfied, so I don't feel like I'm missing out. I'm also learning to dislike Pasta and bread. It's just a holder for the good stuff on the inside! lol. Physically, Pasta and bread make me throw up. I can't handle it. It's an awful feeling.

Anyway, to answer the original posters question, I am 9 months out and I have lost 80 pounds. My goal is 100 pounds by May 24 (my 1 year bariversary). At about 6 months, I had lost about 50 pounds, I think.

I had my surgery on May 24th 2011 also!!! It sounds like we're on a similar track, I lost about 60 lbs (from my highest weight) at 6 months and I'm down 90 from my high weight and 77 since my first weigh in.

To the OP, try not to compare to others! You're expected to lose 1-2 lbs a week...so if you're losing about 6 lbs in between each fill, you're doing your job! If you're losing more than that, great! If you're working out and losing even more, AWESOME! You'll get what you put into your band...when I slack at the gym, I average a little over a pound of weight loss each week, when I hit the gym hard, I typically double that! Work hard and continue evaluating what you can do with this tool, it will only work as hard as we do!

i've found that how much weight you lose depends on your starting weight and height. the more you weigh the more you will lose. I've lost 61lbs and I am just at 6 months 2 days ago. I have a hundred to lose as my goal.

It's been 4 months and I have only lost 18 pounds out of my 88 goal. So this thread has officially gotten me depressed. I am finding it really difficult to walk the line, the band only helps a little so far. I am finding it very difficult to plan my meals I pack too little and end up super hungry and binge, I pack too much and I end up bloated and feeling bad.

On the plus side i know that If I hadn't gotten banded I would have probably gained like 20 pounds this winter....

Well super what are you eating? Do you keep track? I use MFP everyday to keep track. I dont eat carbs and I work out at least 4-5 days a week. Have you had a fill? I'm in the green zone now. I have to remind myself to eat. I get stuck if I dont chew good or eat any starch or bread product.

I have had a couple of fills at 5.25 cc on an 11 cc band, I have only started feeling some restriction recently and by restriction I mean pain after I eat too much, so I really need to stop myself since I get no signals. I honestly have completely failed at cutting out carbs, god knows I've tried. So I try and follow the balanced plate thing, half of the plate green the a quarter red and a quarter white. But I just get so hungry! And it's hard to control what I eat when I am out. At home I am more successful but I am usually out all day and when the food I pack finishes, and I get hungry I find myself snacking on something bad!

I don't even know how I lost those 18 pounds! I forget I lost them most of the time because I haven't even worked for them.. I eat less and better than my pre banded state but still waaaaay too much. And i've been at the same weight for 3 weeks! I just wish I didn't feel so hungry!

I have only started working out yesterday, I have a foot condition (Having a high arch and being so heavy isn't good!) so it is painful to place pressure on my foot just by even walking. I kept waiting till I lost a few more pounds but then I gave up and started yesterday. Let's hope that and another fill would help...

Don't be depressed. It is still possible to not lose or even gain with the band (I haven't really lost much in the last year; I went up again but am now heading downward). As you say, your weight is down, and that's what I look at. I know that since moving out on my own in Jan 2011, I would have gained back what I had lost, plus more if I didn't have this band. So, even if it's slower than others, our weight is going down and we have to remember that!

Thank you for posting this thread. I know that we're all very different and that we will all have different stories, but it has been nice to see that SO many people have had success... and to me ANY weight loss is success. I just keep reminding myself that if I take the slow and steady path I won't end up with a bunch of loose skin hanging on me. I know that is a petty thing to think about but I do want feel good as well as look good : ))

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
