Anyone's Port Get Sore After Exercising???

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I am feeling some soreness/discomfort after having football practice the past 2 days. We practice for 4 hours Saturdays and 4 hours Sundays. We are just doing a lot of conditioning (running, sit-ups, push ups etc.) right now, not much contact. I haven't been hit in the stomach or anything like that. Maybe I just over did it, but my port hurts to the touch, it feels kind of like a bruise. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them after exercising??

I have occasions where my port will hurt really bad. I have gone to my surgeon and to the ER before worried that I had really messed something up to find that everything was just perfect. The only explaination that I can offer you that seems to make the most sense is that when you were exercising you may have tweaked the muscle that your port is attached to. If the pain becomes unbearable you may want to have it looked at but most likely if you take it easy for a few days the pain should go away on its own.

I haven't been able to do crunches or any other kind of core workouts since my surgery (June 2010). If I go slow, I can manage to get through Pilates, but that's about it. Even after a good, hard run I have a little pain.

I have heard it is pretty normal, but I suggest talking to your doctor if it becomes unbearable.

I felt a lot better a couple days after practice. We will see how this week goes. Thanks everyone for your help! :-)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
