I Had Surgery Jan 26 In Mexico. Tomorrow I Can Start Full Liquids. Advice?

Recommended Posts

Never thought I could be so ridiculously so excited about eating Cream Of Wheat or a chocolate Protein Drink. Does anyone have any hints? If it's liquids do I need to limit myself to half cups as I would with solid food or mushies?

I had shakes that I mixed up from my dr's office. They were larger than one Fluid cup once blended. Didn't your dr give you any post op info? I had a booklet to take home with info regarding what to do after surgery.

hi, we were banded on the same day! Im also on full liquids and my dr didn't give me a set limit either. Im just taking it slow, started with 3 ounce portions, now taking in just a couple ounces more. Do what you can to get enough Protein in, but just gauge how you feel every few sips and stop before you feel full or particularly bloated. My dr prob wouldnt approve of cream of wheat..sounds delicious..so ive been throwing yogurt, milk, Protein Powder and carnation instant Breakfast in a blender with ice. Its pretty tasty.

Cream of wheat was on the list he gave me but oddly enough there were no portion sizes on the liquid stuff like the Protein Drinks. I will try your blender yogurt Protein mix. Thanks.

They usually say about 4-6oz per hour on liquid, but agree that you should see how you feel. I was drinking my Protein Shakes waaaayyyy too fast the first couple of days and could tell. Everyone's body is different. Definitely call your doctor with any specific questions though!

I had surgery on the 23 and still on clear liquids... After a week the dietian suggested a yogurt drink and Protein Shake a day. However, she said at this point no blenders due to excess air and comfort after surgery.

If you are feeling like your ready to advance your diet that's probably a good sign everything is working as it should.

Funny how the recommendations can be so different eh?

Yes and I see you had your surgery in Mexico as well. I was on Clear Liquids for 3days and now am on full liquids which include cream of wheat (but really watered down) and cream of mushroom Soup. Protein shakes, Jello, etc. That goes on for 10 days. Then mushies for 2weeks then solid food.

I'm sure I will be excited to just hit the mushie stage.

Both my husband and myself were banded in Mexico as well, and one thing that we liked

to eat was the green pea Soup from

Campbell's I would put it on the blender first before cooking it, ones we advanced to the mushy stage I would just leave it as it is. It has a soft consistency that is good for that stage. And it actually tastes really good.

Right now I'm eating cream of chicken Soup with a lot of milk. Haven't put anything in the blender. So far so good.

What dr in Mexico were you banded with?

Our surgeon was Dr Lopez-Corvala, out of Hospital Angeles in Tijuana. My husband surgery was 4/1/11 and he is down 98lbs and my surgery was 8/19/11 and I'm down 50lbs. I'm very proud of myself that I'm out of the 200's

Who was your surgeon?

Dr. Pedro Kuri. I did my labs at Hospital Angeles and then had surgery at Vida Wellness Center. It was a beautiful place. I was very impressed.

To be honest with you, I was very impressed myself of the service and professionalism of all the staff. The rooms extremely clean, and the service exceptional. We been back twice for fills and we don't regret the long drive since the fills are done under flouroscopy. I have only 2 fills, my last been on Nov 19 and I consider myself to be on the green zone.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
