I have been doing a lot of research and was told by someone a few years ago that had lap band that you are not allowed to eat popcorn or any type of nuts afterward. Is this true? Also is any alcohol allowed after a certain point preoperatively? Any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance....

You can eat them but you need to be careful. I would consider both of these to be slider foods i.e foods that go down easily which the band does not limit you from eating. Whilst nuts are good for you they are still high in fat and calories so should only be consumed in small quantities.

Alcohol can be consumed but again it is full of empty calories. You may find that it affects you quicker as well as you won't have as much food in your stomach to help slow down its affects. My practice encourages a glass of wine over other types of alcohol as wine does supposedly have some health benefits.

I eat nuts and popcorn sometimes. They are not slider foods for me as they fill me up pretty quick. I have to make sure I chew them well or they will cause discomfort. I drink a glass of wine several times per week, but didn't have any alcohol for the first 6 months.

listen to these ladies, they have been very successful in their weight loss! i'm not banded yet, but i thought i wasn't going to be able to eat popcorn, figuring it would swell and get stuck...but you have given me hope! i'll just make sure i try it home first...and the wine too, def gonna try that at home first...LOL

popcorn is a slider food for me, as long as the kernels are fully popped. I still eat nuts as well on days when I need to add calories.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
