How Long To Wait Between Fills

Recommended Posts

I have been reading conflicting stories...I received my first fill last friday. She put 5cc in my 11cc band. SHe then told me that if I didnt feel any restriction which I probably wouldnt she said I could come back next friday..which is only 1 week later for another small fill this time. That just seems like alot too soon!

My dr has you wait a month between fills and unfilled. Which kind of sucks cause i had an unfilled cause I was too tight and now I have no restriction qnd have to wait till mid Feb.

It seems to soon for me, however, your surgeon appears to have a different practice than mine. Right or wrong? No clue...just different than what I'm use to

I even called to verify this information generically and thats what they told me too....I am just reaching out to other sources or just getting a second opinion I guess

My doctor has me wait a month in between fills. My insurance wouldnt pay for anything closer than that anyway. Also for me I seem to feel the fill about a week to 10 days later. Now that I have been banded for a while I dont get fills monthly. My last fill was in October and I dont feel the need to get another fill. I am loosing but slowly and I eat like a normal person now. Not too much and not too little.

All Dr's are different. Mine usually makes you wait 3 weeks to a month. Heck if I decided the fill wasn't working and tried to get in a week later I wouldn't be able to anyway as he is usually booked up so far in advance!

Agreed with Cazzy- do what your doctor says. Just for comparison though wink.png ...mine did the first fill 5 weeks after surgery then had me come in every 10 days to 2 weeks, though I think if I wanted one sooner he would.

Interesting. My first fill was six weeks post-op, the next three visits were at one month intervals and I am now (9 months) at two to three months. My last fill was several months ago but I have definitely and suddenly become much tighter in the last week or so. There will be no fill at my appointment next week, that's for sure. I may even ask for a small unfill.

My doctor says 3 weeks between fills because it can take up to 2 weeks for the fill to "hit". Because the saline can migrate from the tubing into the band. I would wait 3 weeks before attemping another fill.

I'm not trying to start a heated debate on this, but so what if someone else or their doctor thinks what your doctor is doing is wrong? None of us have probably studied performing gastric surgery or gone to medical school, but we did do some work in selecting a doctor we trust. If you don't want the fill that your doctor will give you because you don't feel you need it, then I'm sure telling your doctor that would be just fine and she would not give it to you. However, don't base what your doctor is trying to do with you and your situation on what you read on the internet. Your doctor knows YOUR situation and is making decisions based on that. Trust your doctor and if you don't, find a new one.

I'm getting my first fill today, I've not lost any weight yet and pinning all my hopes on this fill, as at the moment I'm feeling like I've wasted £6,000, so fingers crossed this will do the trick

Had my first fill, drank the Water didn't feel a thing? Maybe I'll know tomorrow when I go back to eating my meals. Only thing I notice, is I am not drinking the whole cup of coffee or downing the entire protien shake.? Anyhow Dr say next fill 4 weeks.

It can quite often be several fills before one feels any form of restriction, being banded is a life long comittment to eating healthy and getting fitter. Its not a quick fix and takes time for the band to really start working with you. It took years to accumulate the weight we all put on and will take some dedicated time to getting it off again. The quicker fix would have been the bypass. I really dont understand why this wasnt explained to some of you pre-op.

Theres lots of threads on this forum regarding fills and feeling restriction, its only a very small minority that feel restriction from day 1 so please just give it time, work hard and u will eventually see results !

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
