Protein shots are great. On days like today when I have a lot to do and I have to work. Down a 4oz. Protein shot and it holds me for couple of hours.

Dwiley56-

What are Protein Shots? What is the brand and where do you find them?

Protein shots are little vials of liquid about 3 oz. You can buy them many places including Walmart and Target.

Premier brand makes a nice ready to drink shake 160 cal. 30 g Protein. Available at costco. I live alone but find the membership worth it because of: CHEAP rotissarie chicken, mini sweet peppers, reasonable store brand cooked chicken breast strips, great canned chicken and pacific brand Soups for liquid mushie stage (which you will need post fills). I also get my Vitamins, and Fiber there.

After experimenting, here is what I found that I love: Walmart sells Pure Protein 100% whey very cheaply. Very large container for $17.99. I do one scoop of the chocolate Protein Powder, one cup skim milk, 2 Splenda packets and a handful of ice cubes all in the blender and liquify. It is cold, good and tastes like a chocolate shake. It is finally one I can really enjoy. 25 gms of Protein for the chocolate plus 8 grams of protein for the milk and you get 33 gms protein total. Took me a while to find this brand. Add the Isopure Protein drinks (I also love Grape Frost) and you will have more protein than you need.

Good luck. It will be ok. I am just a few days ahead of you. Be glad to support you. I am feeling great at 12 days post op.

I was banded the same day! Must have been our Friday the 13th luck- I'm in the same boat. I've noticed my taste buds have changed a lot too. Today, I was finally able to get one serving of Protein in. Of course the doctors want me to do 3-4 servings a day. I'm going to try to do better each day. 4 days ago it made me gag. Today I got some down. I think it gets better as we heal!

Try Click protein- they have vanilla latte and Mocha flavored, with skim milk- tastes like a iced latte. 15 grams Protein. Also Greek Yogurt has like 17 grams of protein, I add a little splenda and some sugar free jam- can also put in blender with skim milk and make a smoothie. Another thing to try are sugarfree syrups like they use in coffee shops. My sister sent me a case of 6 different flavors for christmas( she had WLS in september) I add a little vanilla, or carmal to the Protein Shakes and it hides the preotein taste a little more. Some of the Soup flavors are better then the sweet Protein Powder in the begining I found too. good luck!

I am a friday the 13th-er too who also HATES Protein shakes!! I was so sick the week before from trying the shakes the doctor wanted me on, I thought I was going to be ... not so good with the first few weeks.

However, I found that the Metabolic restart shakes are actually good. I mix the chocolate with skim milk and it tastes just like chocolate milk. I mix the strawberry with some fresh fat free kefir, and the texture/flavor are very similar to a drinkable strawberry frosting. The vanialla one I mixed with a regular via and skim milk before surgery but can mix with a Decaf via now for a coffee shake.

For full liquids does your doc let you do pureed Soups? Mine does, so I have 1-2 Soup meals a day and 1-2 Meabolic Restarts depending on how much Soup I had and how hungry I am feeling.

Good luck!

After my surgery, I had Protein Shakes I bought from my doctors office. Also reccomended by them was Slim Fast low carb shakes. I didn't like to drink them either. I would blend them up, freeze them and then have something I felt like I was eating.

also, I don't do shakes for 4 days after fills. I usually have Soup for lunch and dinner on the day of my fill and play it by ear the next day. You will figure out what works for you when the time comes.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
