Getting Banded Tomorrow Morning!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm Aimee and my surgery is at 7:30am on January 20th. I've been lurking on the forums for a couple of months, but finally created an account and wanted to make my introduction before my surgery tomorrow morning! I'm 24 and work in pharmacy, and see every day at work the impact that obesity has on your long term health. I've gotten a bit of flack from friends for pursuing bariatric surgery in my twenties, but I think it makes a lot of sense--I want to get healthy before I have the chance to find myself on cholesterol, blood pressure, or diabetes meds! My dad was banded three years ago and went from being on insulin and multiple other medications to taking only two meds a day. He's so much more active than I ever remember him being, and it's been great getting to see the change in him--it gives me a lot of hope that the band is the right choice for me and my own personal health.

I weight 262 lbs at my surgical consultation in June of last year, and weighed in at 226 earlier today, seven months after giving carbs the boot. I'm very excited to finally get banded, although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous as well. All the talk about the pain from the gas has me worried, I'm a bit of a wuss about that. Any tips for dealing with post-op pain?

I've spent a lot of time over the past few weeks trying to wrap my head around what my body will look like if/when I hit my goal weight. I've been overweight since childhood, even when active in sports in high school I weighed right at 200 lbs. My goal is 160 lbs, but that number just sounds so...fantastical. I've lost just over 30 lbs already, but it just seems so hard to believe that I could feasibly lose that much more!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
