I had surgery this morning. I am still ay the hospital, I chose to spend the night. Thank goodness because I am miserable! I just want to throw everything up but I won't let myself. Bring on sleep! Hopefully ill feel better tomorrow. I was good all day until tonight. I'm so lucky to have such an amazing husband to talk me through everything and rub my back when I'm sick.

Starting my second week of the pre-op diet! So far I have lost 17lbs during the first week of the diet. I get banded on 2/6/2012! I started at 375 and Doctor would like me to get to 200. So I am looking to lose 175lbs. total!

Well... I was scheduled for 2/6/12 with the surgery group that all the bad publicity came out on TV. Even the maker of the LapBand won't sell it to that group anymore. So I got all of my records from them and went to Dr. Krahn. I am now scheduled for February 29th, leap year day! LOL So after losing a total of 20lbs. on the first pre-op diet, I have started the pre-op diet all over again today, since my surgery will be in two weeks. At least I got one week off between the two diets! I can't wait to get this done and get this weight off once and for al!!

Doing better this evening. Had a long nap and now I am watching tv with my family. I really dont have pain from the incisions, but from the gas! It is like someone is stabbing me. I took two Gas-X strips and I can feel it moving around, so hopefully the pain will pass soon.

great to hear you are doing so well kissme :).

I am having trouble getting in enough food, no nausea or anything just feel really full all the time. Drinking Water is no problem. Had some liquid yogurt and cream Soup with no problems either but the thought of having the milkshakes seems like too much right now. Yesterday I did get 2/3 of one down but then I was full for what felt like the rest of the night.

I don't know what it feels like for other people to have the band but for me, I get a squeezing, pressure sensation every once in a while that seems to move from the bottom up (if that makes any sense) lol.

Maybe just new sensations to get used to and learning to listen to my body.

This Pre-Op Diet is rough. I am only on day 3 but having only 800-960 calories a day is rough, plus being off caffeine is leaving me with crazy headaches. I am trying to look at the bigger picture but it is pretty rough because I feel like I am lagging and I don't have much energy at all.

Anyone have any good tips to keep me from going insane?

I haven't even thought about milk shakes, never came to mind. But I don't leave the house much so maybe thats why. But think happy thoughts! My stomach doesn't like broth for some reason I think maybe because its warm. I have been prefering Jello and juice or Water over everything. Even the yogurt still was a little heavy yet. I'm flag you are doing better! We are all going to get through this together!

I'll have to try cream Soup that sounds better than broth. Yeah I'm full constantly too. I have to remind myself that I haven't eaten yet. Crazy! I still have a ton of those gas pains in my chest. It's still the worse part! Last night I kept waking up laying on my stomach, what is my sleep body thinking?! Haha I was never told to give up caffeine. My dr said I could have 1-2 cups of coffee a day so I drank coffee all throughout the pre-op diet, thank goodness because I felt so drained of energy. I haven't had any coffee since the surgery though. I just haven't been interested in it.

When I was preop to help me take the milkshakes I used boiling Water and added extra so it was more the consistency of hot chocolate and added instant coffee crystals, sometimes added a scoop of pure cocoa to the vanilla. They filled me up much more, took longer to drink and tasted more like a mocha coffee etc.

Every day is getting much better pain wise.

Emotionally I think I have been pretty sensitive, some moments the thought of everything is a bit overwhelming. Just trying to take it day by day for now.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
