Still Supposed To Be On Pureed Foods...want Fish!

Recommended Posts

OK so I was banded on 12/16/11.. I'm kinda going through this on my own because I made a choice not to tell anyone about being banded.. I was just in no mood for judgment from people who didn't understand... Only my mother and husband know...

So, that being said, I find that going out with friends is REEEEALLY tough right now... It's pretty difficult to explain to them why i'm only having Soup broth and Water right now..lol... I know it's still early in my journey but I've tried having grilled fish a couple of times before and totally tolerated it just fine... But I can't help but wonder if it might be hindering my progress.....

I've lost 24lbs since my pre-op diet but have actually hit a plateau this week with no loss (note, I'm on my period and am hoping that that is the culprit)

So I was wondering, has anyone else progressed to something like fish earlier on?.. I'm finding it's like the only was for me to get any real Protein in since I can't seem to stomach Protein shakes (I've tried several and they all taste horrid to me... and make me nauseous).

Any advice would help!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally understand about not telling anyone, I'm doing the same thing. I had surgery on 12-29-11 so i'm on the full liquid diet for 3 weeks. Have you tried Unjury Protein Drink ? The others are pretty gross, but this brand seems to do the job. That an low fat yogurt. Good luck.

Not wanting to tell your friends is not a good reason to advance your diet sooner. The guidelines from your Dr are there for a reason, you don't want to mess something up just because you are worried about what other people think. If you can't stick to what you are supposed to be doing when you are around your friends then maybe you need to avoid being around them for a while.

All dr have different programs. Mine had me on liquids for a week, soft for a week and then on to normal food on week three. I did though move slowly into it not knowing how my band would react to new foods. Follow you drs orders they do know what they are doing most the time!

I steamed some fish so it was really soft fleshy meat. That was ok with my nurse.

I get it about the Protein Shakes - bleck! In my program we were actually not allowed to have them - only "real" food. So I learned how to make everything into a "soup" with my Bullett blender - reallly! Split pea with ham - pureed, of course - is excellent for Protein. You can add tofu to anything to thicken it up, or milk (or soy milk) to thin it out. I have pureed denver omelettes, eggs and bacon, just about whatever I wanted to eat that had a high protein content. But I was on Clear Liquids for a week, full liquids for a couple of weeks, then purees, so I was pretty far out before I got all crazy. Advancing yourself too soon could well be interfering with your progress! If you can't go out with your friends while staying true to #1 - YOURSELF - then you should probably not go for a while. I went out with friends right away, but then I told everyone :-) It's a choice that only you can make! Best of luck

So I read your post and your still really to soon for even puree. I was banded two weeks before you and I just started puree per doctors instructions. When you are ready for puree and you want fish I'd sugest the oven popers brand of fish they can be microwaved and then puree'd with some stock. They don't contain any bones and most are stuffed with a vegtable so you are getting more then just fish.

The protien shakes do suck but i've found that bariactric advantage is not bad and if you blend it with a Blender Bottle with some skim milk they taste alot better.

I'd be honest with your friends about your surgery, stressing your delicate pouch to elude your friends is a bad idea.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
