Does anyone experience this? When I eat my meals with other people and carry on conversation over a meal, I have a lot of trouble digesting even a few tablespoons of food even though I eat very slow and chew chew chew. I hate social dinner events because of this. When I eat without talking there is absolutely no issues, but when I'm talking between bites I always need to go to the bathroom where I have to bring up a bunch of slime and some food as well ( even if i hardly had anything). Anyone else experience this? If so, what do you do at social dinners?

I find the opposite to be true. Because of the restriction, I have to wait between swallows, even put my fork down.

Carrying on a conversation helps with these times. Otherwise I wood be looking around the room or out the window.

You are probably not paying attention to how you eat which is why you are having issues. You need to take small bites, chew slowly etc and it can take some getting used to in a social situation.

Always think small, concentrate, and chew till it's Applesauce.

You need to pay closer attention to what, and how your doing it.

Never try to hurry up and swallow something, just so you can get your 2 cents in.

Your bound to get stuck.

Take your time, ,,,,,,, find time for conversation, while you relax. This is a good time to put the fork down. When your ready, then take a small bite, and focus on what your doing. You won't miss the conversation, your ears will pick up on everything. So take your time.

I really do take my time and chew everything until its mush, but when I talk between mouthfuls I still slime, almost as though the food womt stay down. At home I always eat after my husband and children because I just can't sit there and socialize while I eat. Wow, I guess this is really uncommon. I thought there might be other people who experience the same issues.

For me I try really hard not to talk and eat... sometimes I swallow too quickly and get the slimes!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
