1 Year Lap Band Surgery Anniversary And Struggling....

Recommended Posts

My 1 yr anniversary is in Jan. I have lost 30 pounds (all in the first 5 months) gained zero and lost inches. I can't eat in the AM and with my last fill, I really can't eat anything until 3-4pm. I drink tea when I get up in the AM and have a Protein drink for late breakfast/early lunch. I am getting sick of eating/drinking the same exact stuff day after day after day!

Any suggestions? My band is tight but I am not losing weight so I feel like it needs to be this tight but I am getting frustrated that I can't eat anything! I have 1 meal/day and my guess, I am getting under 900 calories/day. How can I possibly not be losing weight?? My nutritionist says I need to eat like a normal person-3 meals a day. The only way I can do that is with my band loosened which I wasn't sucessful in losing weight. My family says they can't believe I am not losing with the little that I am eating. I think I need to introduce other foods but I can't find any that don't get stuck.

Greek Yogurt

cheese

Protein Drink

Soup (some get stuck, depending upon the time I eat it and what is in it)

Have you ever tried an on line calorie counter such as www.myfitnesspal.com/? If you are very honest with it, you may surprise

yourself, I know I did. I can't seem to get over the idea that, if you

restrict your calorie intake, you'll lost weight. I know that modern, pop

science contradicts that, but I'm really old fashioned and believe that

if I eat more, I'll gain weight and if I eat less. I'll lose. I've got a lot to

learn about modern dietary science.

What's with this forum? My posts show up an hour after I post.

I agree that you are too tight and that you need some taken out so that you can eat a wider variety of foods. As you can see being too tight doesn't work, you don't lose. You are probably consuming more calories than you realise as calories are easy to drink.

Have a small unfill, start eating a wider variety of healthy foods and see what happens.

Odds are you are not eating enough due to your restriction. You'll surprise yourself if you get a little unfill and start eating more and you'll lose.

I just got a fill a week ago. Prior to that I was not losing weight (experimented for 2.5 months before getting this last fill) hence why I got a .25 fill.

I for sure am not drinking my calories. I drink tea Water and skim milk in my Protein drink. My Protein Drink is 118 calories;26 g protein; 1 carb. I add skim milk to that.

Looser band didn't equal wt loss for me so that is why I tightened it. Prior to my last fill, I was able to eat a lot at night time. This new fill keeps me tight at night but I can't eat anything until late night???

Is anyone else tight in the AM? If so, how long?

The band as you know is too tight , ... To really start dropping the weight , you need to let some of the Fluid out so you can eat more and watch the weight melt away !!!!

Good luck to you !!!!

I had a similiar issue at one point and needed an unfill.... I too thought snug was good and it wasn't. I actually gained since I was living on sliders and didnt really realize it

I got a question. Are you working out or exercising at all. You might have to up your activity level in order to see some results. What you do know is that the same old thing isn't working for you, Your body has got used to your routine. You need to shake it up a bit. My suggest, unfill so you can eat more regularly and start exercising a bit more.

Call me a rebel here but.... If you are getting enough Protein (65-90 grams per day), the calories don't really matter. God knows we have enough energy stored. It is when the Protein is too low that the body kind of freezes. (And drink water)

I don't count calories - never have. I can't eat before 12 or 1. I eat two very very small amounts of protein per day. I do exercise and that helped me a lot along the way.

My band is wicked tight - probably tighter than many people could tolerate. I keep it as tight as possible without getting heartburn. That's been my sweet spot for about a year now.

Same here, except I do have a Protein shake along with a protein supplement for Breakfast.

I'm not a believer in the "starvation" mode. Sometimes I think it is a excuse to eat!

I have enough stored away as extra weight (or did) to last me on a deserted island for a while. Just need the protein and Water to keep the engine running.

Ive always found a solid 45 minutes to an hour of hard exercise (think running, spinning, bootcamp rather than walking, zumba, recumbent bike) is necessary for wright loss. - and now maintenance.

And i did find i lost weight totally unfilled. But thats nothing to do with starvation mode. Its because a diet made up of fruit, vegies and wholegrains has less calorues than one full of sliders like shakes, yogurt, Cookies ( the ultimate slider for me). But i could only keep it up for a few months, the temptation to eat up grew over time.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
