Should I Go To The Hospital ???? Square shaped Bruise after Lap band Surgery

Recommended Posts

HELLO ,

I WAS BANDED DECEMBER 1ST. NO COMPLICATIONS AT ALL.

IM 3WKS POST-OP AND I STILL FEEL GREAT. MY ONLY ISSUE IS STILL BURPING AFTER EACH MEAL LOL

BUT TONIGHT I WAS JUST GETTING IN THE SHOWER AND MY 7YR OLD SAID "EWWWW WHATS WRONG WITH YOUR BELLY". SO I SAID WHERE AND SHE POINTED IT OUT.

I HAVE A SQUARE SHAPED BRUISE ON THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE OF MY STOMACH A FEW INCHES AWAY FROM MY PELVIC hair LINE.

ALL MY SURGERY SCARS ARE RIGHT BELOW MY BREAST AND THE PORT IS ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE.

THIS BRUISE LOOKING THING DOES NOT HURT, DOESNT FEEL LIKE A BRUISE, JUST LOOKS LIKE IT., IT'S VERY BLUE.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS AFTER SURGERY?

IM THINKING IF THIS WAS SOMETHING FROM SURGERY , IT WOULDNT LOOK BLUE 3 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY WOULD IT? I WOULD THINK IT WOULD BE ALREADY TURNING YELLOWISH IN COLOR.

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ? SHOULD I GO TO THE HOSPITAL? COULD IT BE A BLOOD CLOT ?

I may not be the best person to answer you, because I haven't even been banded yet, but if it were me I'd first check to make sure that it is a bruise and not something on your skin (I've made that mistake before) and then call your surgeon's office and ask what to do. There should be someone on call, I would think. If you're still not sure, I'd just go to the hospital. It may be no big deal, but better safe than sorry, right?

Please let me know what you decide to do and how you are doing. <3

you probably got a shot of heparin in your stomach before surgery...do u remember where they gave it to you in your stomach? That can cause bruising and for a longer period of time than a normal bruise.

The only blood thinner shots I remember while awake were two in my belly on the left side. It's just weird I've never noticed it and it looks like a fresh bruise.

That bruise is more than likely where they gave you wither heprin or lovenox. I would call your doc first thing in the morning about the burning and to see what the bruise could be. This isnt something you want to take lightly.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm doing is calling first thing.

Also, theres no pain, burning or anything. Just a blue looking bruise .

We have a service in Australia called Nurse on Call where you can phone up anytime of day or night and speak with a nurse for advice on whether to go to the hospital or wait to see your doctor next day. Do you have anything like that where you are? A phone call could give you peace of mind.

I hope it turns out to be nothing but where you were given injections. Keep us posted.

I just had my husband look at it real good while Im laying down. He said it's NOT Just blue, I was wrong. He said it's yellowish, blue , green. So maybe it is old and from surgery and my fat butt just couldn't see it. Lol ugh , I'll still call in the morning to be sure . Plus I'm still curious what they could have done to me in that area.

Besides the lap band, they also fixed a hiatal hernia (sp)

I had a small bruise right near my breasts right after surgery. It did not hurt and went away in a few days

My last surgery, Oct. 14 I had a black/blue bruise come up about 2-3 weeks afterward. The surgeon saw it and said "You just bruise easily!" Mine, also, did not hurt; it is probably nothing, but keep an eye on it! Karen

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
