Vision Issues After Lap Band Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any vision issues after the surgery? I am 5 days post op and I am having trouble seeing close up (books, computer) but ok for far away (tv, etc)

The nurse told me yesterday that it might have been a result of the patch behind my ear with pain meds, but I took the patch off yesterday and have taken very little pain meds and I am still having issues.

Any thoughts?

Really? My surgeon's office told me today that they don't think it would be from my surgery. So I made an appointment with the eye dr for tomorrow. I cannot even see well enough to go back to work! But I hate to go to the dr, get a new prescription and then it changes in a few days.

Maybe you are still medicated, I know it takes me forever to get rid of meds out of my system. Check w dr

I had vision problems post op too. I was going crazy, I was like why did the anesthesia do? y eyes were fine for a minute, but after trying to read things for more than a few minutes they could not focus. I found out it was due to the scopolamine patch. Once I took it off after a day my eyes were fine. Give the meds some time to get out of your system and if you are still having trouble then go see a doc.

Thanks for all the feedback. I decided to go ahead and go to my appointment. Turns out the improved eye sight is sometimes a benefit of lap-band surgeries. Who woulda thought it?

My eye dr said it is usually a little later down the road but that mine must have changed early. My new prescription is a lot better than pre-surgery.

Yeah for lap-band! This is one benefit I had not expected!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
