Banded Tuesday, Hiatal Hernia (who Knew?!), And Pain...

Recommended Posts

Hello beautiful bandsters,

Anyone come out of surgery with the news that you had a huge hiatal hernia that had to be repaired? What is the recovery for that, and what did you eat? I'm having a hard time even drinking, due to the pain in my chest, so I know I'm not getting in my required fluids. Is this normal?

I was banded Monday and they told me they had to repair hiatal hernia too. They didn't say if large or not. I am able to take the full liquids well and only time I have any chest pain is occasionally I feel like I need to burp but it won't come up and I get a short-lived pain in center of chest. But for most part fluids are going down fine. Probably due to size of yours that it is uncomfortable -- hopefully it will lessen each day.

Hi, and congratulations on your band. I am one week out today. The only thing I can suggest is that it is really important to breathe deep. Use a pillow over your chest. I thought I was over the gas pain but, oh man, has it hurt today. I know that the recovery on a hernia repair takes longer so pace yourself, hon.

All the best on your journey to good health. Take good care.

Melinda

Oh my gosh!! I had the same thing! The way my doctor told me about it made it seem like it was no big deal, but holy cow I was in pain!! It got so bad the evening of my surgery ( I had outpatient and was home by noon) my husband took me back to the hospital and they kept me for 2 days hooked up to massive pain meds. It will take longer for you to heal, and it's not a comfortable process. Take food slowly, you'll have more swelling than a normal lap band patient. Good luck sugar, and keep us posted!!

I found out I have a 2cm hiatal hernia that will be repaired during my surgery on Dec. 21st. Worried because I don't have hardly any time off at work.

Did they tell you how large it was? Did you have any symptoms before surgery that it was causing? I've been nausea for 3 months and dry heave every time I brush my teeth. Pretty sure the hernia is the cause. So looking forward to not having the nausea!

Thank you all. This helps! Oliversmomma, I really didn't have any symptoms, other than some pretty bad heartburn. Just make sure to ask your doctor how you should treat it afterwards.

I too was banded Tuesday & had hernia repaired also. I was told about 4 years ago that I had a small hernia & it was nothing to worry about. Well I get out of surgery & I have this big old incision on my belly!! Holy crap! lol I think thats whats adding to my pain/discomfort. But they really stressed walking & moving around to get the gas & anesthesia out & it does work! 12 lbs down & alot more to go but Im on my way!

My story is the same as everyone else. Told about the "repair......no charge" :) when I woke up. My problem is, I can't figure out what is band pain and what is repair pain.

What is a hernia? I have been tested for all kinds of things, I think they would have told me if I had one right? Do all obese people have them? I have been very nauseous lately and have been feeling terrible...do you think that's why???

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
