Liquid Diet Is Making Me Crazy!

Recommended Posts

I think you're all doing so well! I've been on liquid diets for one or two days before my colonoscopies every four or five years, and I thought THAT was hard. I've only just met with my surgeon, last Thursday, and he said that the liquid diet was only for the two weeks following surgery. With any surgery, of which I've had plenty, it's nothing to eat or drink after midnight, which is just to make sure your stomach is completely empty. I have no liver or gall bladder problems, so I don't see the need for a long liquid diet. Has anyone NOT have had to do liquids before surgery?

I only had to do it for the 5 days prior to surgery and the week after. But the week after all I wanted was liquids anyway and I barely wanted that.

I have heard from others in my support group that their surgeon did not make them do the liquid pre-op diet or they only did it for 2 days.

I am on day 9 of my pre op diet. I must say the first three days were the worst of it. I only really had cravings for something crunchy. I had planned on eating some stuff that wasn't on my diet tonight. We had our christmas dinner at work tonight and tomorrow is my birthday so I figured I would have a little something. Which even that I stayed under 1000 calories for the day today. Had my shake this morning. my broth for lunch and my christmas dinner. Which I think is great. Back on the liquids tomorrow. My surgery is Friday. I am getting excited and nervous. I wish all you pre op dieters luck. Just think of it as a stepping stone to the new you.

My operation is in less than two weeks and my surgeon didn't say anything about a preop diet. Please help! What do I need to do and is it necessary?

Andy, relax. My surgeon said liquids were only necessary for the first 2 weeks POST-OP. I've done some online research, and apparently now some surgeons don't think it's necessary for everyone to go on a pre-op liquid diet. Definitely go with what your surgeon and his staff have said - if you don't need it, that's great. Just relax and make plans for the post-op diet.

I dont know but I have heard of a liver breaking or tearing I should say and having to to a full surgery vs a laperscopic. So I'd call Drs office, Every body is different. Through 2 endoscopies and xrays etc I know my liver is a bit puffy, so hanging in there with diet, and pushing that Water

I hate to say this but come on people its not really that hard, just drink your Protein Drinks and all the Soup broth you can eat and you can do it.. if you really want to lose weight then you have to suck up and do this for yourself.. sorry to be so blunt.. good luck and hang in there..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
