Problem With Dried Fruit After Lap Band Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Do not have a band surgery date yet. Probably in January. Just curious, does anyone have problems with dried fruit such as raisins? I was wondering if dried fruit would be too hard to break down.

No problem with raisins but i would limit dried fruit consumption - the calories and sugar really add up fast.

I try not to eat a lot of dried fruit as it is high in calories for volume. I do not however have any trouble with dried cranberries and dried cherries (costco brand is moist and a good price).

I have never had any trouble with dried fruit but nuts is another story. Peanut Butter creamy and others like it are fine but I have had nothing but trouble the couple of times that I ate nuts. As for the fruit, as long as you chew them well you should be ok. Someone mentioned in an earlier post about the calories, that is very true but, dont let the fact that you're banded keep you away from your favorite foods. You will learn which foods you can tolerate. Good Luck

I love dried fruit and haven't had a problem with it. I don't eat much because of the calories, but I do love it and am not going to deny myself a couple of dried apricots every few days.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
