Hi everyone, I'm having the lap band surgery early feb and I'm feeling very confident about everything except for extra skin.... Does anyone have any tips on how to limit extra skin?

If you put enough effort into this and lose slow and steady, at your age, I'd be surprised if you have any excess

skin. Get enough excercise and follow your dietitian's instructions, all you'll put on is muscle. Good luck.

Like you, I'm terrified of loose skin as well. What I'm doing is exercising a LOT right now doing Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone DVDs. Its walking in place, and I highly recommend it! I do between 2-5 miles everyday and my skin keeps getting tighter and tighter... I'm 24 so I'm hoping I have age by my side. I also hope that I will loose the weight slowly, I do not want it all to come off at once by any means.

As soon as I'm ready after the surgery I will be exercising like crazy, that's my advice! Maybe we could keep in touch :)

Whether or not you have loose skin has nothing to do with how much effort you put in. It has to do with many factors including, but not limited to, genetics, length of time obese, stretch marks, skin elasticity, exercise, circulation, etc.

I know someone who took a year to lose her weight (over 100 pounds) and was 23. She ended up with a lower body lift with a circumferential incision. I will too but I've been overweight for 30 years.

It all depends on your skin's elasticity. Our skin has a limit to which is can be stretched and if yours has been stretched for awhile, it will be hard for it to bounce back. Think of a rubber band and how eventually they can no longer stretch. With that being said, I have lost a decent amount of weight fairly quickly and am not seeing much extra skin at all. My arms have a little as well as my thighs, but I am doing specific exercises to tone those areas up and muscle will fill some of the void left from the fat.

I cannot stress it enough, ladies please don't be afraid of strength training. The weights will not make you bulk up!!! I lift 4-5 days a week on top of my cardio which is 5-6 days a week. Heavy weights. People ask me all the time why I lose quickly and I'm not pudgy. I have genetics on my side too. So far I've technically lost 57lbs since feb of this year. I use to be 317 and now I'm 260. I have no lose skin as of yet!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
