Type 2 Diabetic/ Pre- Lap Band Question

Recommended Posts

I am Type 2 Diabetic and in the process of getting lap-band in 5 days. I test my blood sugar twice daily. I tested low in the early afternoons. Is there anything I can do to bring it up? Is the low blood sugar due to the liquid diet I am on? Suggestions/comments are appreciated. Thank You.

Please contact your physician that monitors your diabetes for advice. I am also a diabetic and without knowing your meds or insulin intake it is impossible for me or any other member to give you meaningful advice on such an important healrh issue. My insulin intake has been dramatically reduced since surgery and I test at least 4 times a day to keep my glucose levels in the appropriate range. My doctor has closely monitored me during the past 5 months to guide me thru this.

We've discussed this several times. Diabetics often experience hypoglycemia on the pre op diets. If your

blood sugar levels go below 70 or so. especially if you're not used to those levels, drink some orange or apple juice

or even eat some table sugar to raise your levels to a range you're used to. Time was when my B/S got

below 100 I'd feel it, now, with 50 lbs lost, levels of 75 don't bother me. As your weight drops, you'll slowly

get used to sugar levels that are more nearly normal. If for some reason you can't get your sugar up, then

by all means see your doctor. Levels approaching 50 or so are dangerous.

I was lucky I had a diabetic clinic that helped me a lot by the time I had my surgy I was taking half the medication and 2 weeks post op I was medication free. I would talk to your doc u might just need to cut back on your meds. Good luck everything

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
