How much weight did you have to lose before anyone noticed?

Recommended Posts

I am curious, but how much did you have to lose before anyone noticed? I am down 30 pounds as of today (89 pounds left to go)...but not one comment. Only my husband and doctors know about my surgery and I haven't told anyone that I am on a "diet". Is this unusual?

I was 277 pre-op with about 130 goal to lose. People at work really starting noticing around 45-50 pounds lost (i've lost close to 70 now). Don't worry - people will start noticing soon - then you'll love the compliments but after people start talking about your weight every other day it starts to get a little unnerving =)

It took about 30 before even I could notice a change. But I will say that people look at me now (down almost 70--lots of changes) and don't say anything. I guess they don't want to step in something by saying the wrong thing, so they just say nothing.

As for when I had the surgery, I lost like 9.8 lb on pre op and 9.2 on post op the first week. I came back to work 7 days post op and a few days later someone said it looks like you've lost weight. They said my face looked thinner. So less than 20 lb, but I'd say since I started that job I'd lost about maybe 35 or 40 lb prior to that. But that was I've like 1.5 years. So I guess since it was slower it really wasn't noticed

I've lost 33 pounds. My Mom noticed my weight loss by how baggy my jeans are.

It feels good to have lost that much weight.

I had a BMI of 36 when I had surgery and am 5ft 10, so I would have thought weight loss would show quite quickly. But it didnt. I clearly remember the first WOW comment - I had lost 17kg - a bit over 40lb. I was halfway to my initial goal! It took that long to actually show and to actually go down a dress size. Now, I go down a dress size and look gaunt if I drop 3lb.

I'm down 25 pounds, and most people have noticed my new hair cut but not the weight loss. I got a few comments from the girls that knew I had surgery that my face was looking thinner.

All my patients said something at the 70 lb mark ...they were blown away!!! see sometimes people wait until its a big amount to say anyrthing.

I had been laid off from my job and had not seen one of my Collegues for a year. I lost 50 pounds presurgery and and lost another 20 when I met him for lunch. He did not say a word about my weight loss until my other friend brought it up. Could it be because he is 1) an HR professional and thought it a to personal question, 2) is a married man and thought it was too personal of a question to ask a woman? So my answer would be some people may not bring it up because they think it is rude to mention someones weight good or bad. Also could they be sick and not telling anyone.

I had my surgery in the summer, so when I went back to school, a few people said something about my weight loss (I was down around 50 pounds), but now almost every teacher I run into says something. I teach at a big school, so there can be months that I will not see certain people.

I am down 39 pounds (on a stuck plateau it seems) and had my hair cut a month or two before my surgery. When I run into someone that I haven't seen in a bit, they all comment on the haircut and how it slims down my face. LOL. I want to yell at them "It's not the haircut" but I don't, I just smile to myself and say "one day they will realize it is not the haircut". I think around 50 to 60 pounds is where it really starts to get noticed for a lot of people, though.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
